POISON IDEA
feel the darkness (2010/FAREWELL)
HARDCORE. Portland's POISON IDEA were never a subtile act. In fact, they resided at the furthest end of the opposite spectrum, fusing the pummeling rhythm section of heavy metal, with the crunching three-chord speed and fury of American hardcore, topped off with Jerry A.'s snarling, larger than life baritone, spitting out declamation after declamation against the world. Reissued in 2004 by Farewell Records, "feel the darkness" is, simply stated, POISON IDEA's most blistering moment in the sun, a steamrolling mass of furious speed and aggression, tempered with excellent drum and guitar work.

tear from the red (2002/TRUSTKILL)

POISON THE WELL
the opposite of december (2000/TRUSTKILL)
POISON THE WELL build off of the South Florida sound that hardcore kids have come to embrace over the past few years; they make hardcore all encompassing. Imagine mixing the musical and vocal stylings from HARVEST with the pure emotion that is found on a BOY SETS FIRE record, and the tight and devastating clean guitar riffing of MESHUGGAH, and you will only begin to appreciate what POISON THE WELL is. POISON THE WELL
the tropic rot (2010/FERRET)
POST-HARDCORE. With their 5th studio album, "the tropic rot", POISON THE WELL reach the apex of the idea behind their name, rolling out a wide-angle take on heavy music that's so fully realized in its boundary-pushing, it makes it impossible to imagine the genre in any other way. Recorded in California with legendary producer Steve Evetts (Every Time I Die, Dillinger Escape Plan, The Cure), the album finds POISON THE WELL working with non-traditional instrumentation, cinematic influences and bigger-than-ever guitar and vocal melodies. With a solid lineup locked and relentless touring planned for "the tropic rot's" wake, POISON THE WELL are ready to keep moving forward in other ways as well.
POISON THE WELL
versions (2008/FERRET)
POST-HARDCORE. POISON THE WELL's "versions", is about to turn the heavy music landscape upside down. The album is imbibed with grooving swampiness and esoteric contemplation, all anchored by the brutal stomp that has been imitated by many in the years since POISON THE WELL 1st emerged, but never duplicated. This eclectic approach is apparently something that the band have carried on from their previous work. Anybody who likes their music with equal measures of aggression and invention should check this out!
POISON THE WELL
you come before you (2003/WARNER)
METALCORE. The 12 track collection (the band's label debut and 3rd full-length release overall) sees the Florida-based quintet continuing to refine their progressive blend of metallic hardcore, blending furious riffs and speed rhythms with distinctively expressive melodic songwriting.
