THURSDAY
kill the house lights (2007/VICTORY)
INDIE/POST-ROCK. "kill the house lights" is a collection of both film and music that traces the band's humble beginnings in the basements of New Jersey to the international stardom. The audio portion contains three previously unreleased tracks as well as other surprises, with the DVD having over 90min. of footage, including an entire live show, candid interviews, and classic archival footage of the band on tour, in the studio and behind the scenes.
THURSDAY
no devolucion (2011/EPITAPH)
INDIE/POST-ROCK. On their 6th studio album, THURSDAY explores the elements of post-rock, indie, art and experimental styles of MOGWAI and EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY, blending it all with their post-hardcore roots for a beautifully cathartic experience unlike anything they've done before. Vinyl version includes free CD of this entire album and an etched d-side.
THURSDAY
waiting (2011/EYEBALL)
POST-HARDCORE. "waiting" (originally from 1999) is 9 songs from this energetic New Brunswick band that blends lush guitars and soaring vocal melodies with the driving passion of hardcore. Not your typical post-hardcore band, they seem to dabble in more indie-rock areas of song writing, including violin arrangements to this recording. A dark and passionate study of loss, regret and hope from these gloomed-out hardcore bringdowns.
THURSTON MOORE
trees outside (2007/ESTATIC PEACE)
POST-ROCK. This is the 12 song solo project from founder and lead member of SONIC YOUTH, one of the most influential bands of our time. "Trees outside" was years in making with personal, structured songs instead of improvised noise some might expect from THURSTON. THURSTON plays primarily acoustic guitar, piano and some bass. Steve Shelly (SONIC YOUTH) on drums, Samara Lubelski (violin), the incomparable J Mascis (DINOSAOUR JR.) lends guitar to 4 tracks and Christina Carter (CHARALAMBIDES) contributes vocals. This is a sprawling record with unique music and lyrics yet with pieces that are undeniably comparable to SONIC YOUTH.
TIDAL SLEEP, THE
4 song (2012/THIS CHARMING MAN)
POST-HARDCORE. THE TIDAL SLEEP is a four-piece band from Mannheim/Karlsruhe, Germany and this is their 4 song record. Musically, they play melodic hardcore with nice shoegazeish, post-rockish guitar parts and emotional vocals. The new songs are dreamy, passionate and intense in the same time, sound like the old TOUCHE AMORE mixed with ENVY. This one-sided LP comes with a nice etched b-side and a digital download card.
TIDAL SLEEP, THE
s/t (2012/THIS CHARMING MAN)
POST-HARDCORE. Maybe this is the 1st hardcore band on This Charming Man. They take the passionate, almost spoken vocals out of bands like of the popular wave-movement , use similar picturesque language but combine it with an almost post-rockish guitar sound without loosing their drive and attack. This is not a new way to get a post-rock thing going – this is modern hardcore with extraordinary guitar work. If you dig ENVY, LA DISPUTE, TOUCHE AMORE or SADDEST LANDSCAPE, check out these guys! Colored vinyl comes with digital download card.
TIDEMOUTH
what i meant to say (2012/MELOTOV)
POST-HARDCORE. With influences that include MODERN LIFE IS WAR and ORCHID, it's difficult to confine TIDEMOUTH to one genre. Too painted and instrumentally dynamic to be hardcore, yet too heavy and eerily atmospheric to fall under the category of '90s screamo, this 7" is caught in a purgatory between melodic angst and crushing sadness. Colored vinyl includes a digital download card.
TIDES / GIANT
split (2007/LEVEL PLANE)
INSTRUMENTAL/POST-ROCK. While both bands share slower tempos and amp-worshiping guitar tones, TIDES and GIANT manage to strike their own course in a scene that is rife with boring clones and uninspired songwriting. TIDES write gorgeously lush soundtracks to movies not yet made, filled with emotive guitar work, dynamic drumming, and huge production. GIANT's sole track on this record features the band's three-guitar line weaving its way through both the heaviest of distortions and hauntingly euphoric passages. LP housed in a gatefold sleeve.
TIDES OF MAN
empire theory (2009/RISE)
INDIE-ROCK. In a short period of time, Tampa's TIDES OF MAN have grown from underground local band selling out small clubs to Rise Records' next monster, backed by a soaring, melodic sound that brings to mind the first COHEED AND CAMBRIA record as well as the lighter moments of SAOSIN, CIRCA SURVIVE and CHIODOS, but also mixing in the experimentation of THE MARS VOLTA and the moody rock of RADIOHEAD.
TIEBREAK
(0/)
It seems like good bands are bred like eggs in Norway. '98 has been the year to spawn a lot of bands that tried to sound like 88 but never made it. TIEBREAK must have listened to a couple of records from that era as well, but forgot all about it because they sound kinda different. More on the classical HC tip these dudes bring in a taste of aggression to the music which fits. Innovative songs mix with a singer that dose luckily not go along with the guitar lines. The sound supports the music and helps create a picture that lets you understand that there is more to old skool than just three chords.
TIEBREAK
Stand hard 1996 - 1998 (2005/CRUCIAL RESPONSE)
One of the definite landmarks of Norwegian hardcore. Rough and aggressive hardcore with a singer high on adrenaline and rage. This CD contains the debut 7" and the 'A better tomorrow' demo. Almost the stuff of legend before any of their releases, TIEBREAK's name is still legion.
TIEFIGHTER
I could tell the world (2008/TORQUE)
HARDCORE. TIEFIGHTER is a California five-piece hardcore mob. TIEFIGHTER's sound could be described as fast, melodic, ferocious hardcore. The clean production on the guitars and drums make for a more accesible experience, as opposed to grittier niches explored by similar bands. "I could tell the world" provides frantic wake up calls with its breakneck speed drumming. TIEFIGHTER is a fun listen with plently of sing-alongs to scream away to on a sun-bathed night, but the lack of substance lets them down. If you like SET YOUR GOALS, DAGGERMOUTH or even THIS IS HELL you should try this item!
TIGER ARMY
early years (2002/HELLCAT)
PSYCHOBILLY-PUNK. Recorded in '96 and mostly available only on out of print vinyl Includes a MISFITS. These guys take psychobilly to the next level.
TIGER ARMY
II: power of moonlite (2001/HELLCAT)
PSYCHOBILLY/PUNK-ROCK. The sophomore album from these energetic and classic-sounding punk rock terrors sparks the scene with thirteen new tracks of octane-pumped and combustion-ready psychobilly fire. Features former members of AFI and SAMHAIN, as well as guest rockage from RANCID's Matt and Lars, and AFI's Davey.
TIGER ARMY
III: ghost tigers rise (2004/HELLCAT)
PSYCHOBILLY/PUNK-ROCK. TIGER ARMY have turned hard work and even tragedy (the shooting of drummer Fred Hell in 2003) into triumph with the release of "III: ghost tigers rise" - the album's 13 tracks are the band's boldest and most compelling work yet. This album takes TIGER ARMY to a new level sonically, where meticulously crafted vintage tones meet elements of modern recording in an approach that reflects the band's overall philosophy on embracing both the past and the future. "III: ghost tigers rise" is a watershed album that will attract not only fans of psychobilly, but punk, goth, rockabilly and roots music, country and rock 'n' roll in general.
