INDIE/POST-ROCK. "steeple" is the 1st album proper from WOLF PEOPLE and represents the emergence of a fully fledged band from the fragmented, haunted bedroom meanderings of their "tidings" compilation, released earlier this year. "steeple" takes on a heavier sound while maintaining the arabesque electric guitars, groove-laden drums and ethereal vocals that characterized its predecessor. "steeple" sounds as massive as the setting in which it was laid to tape and is full of the nuggets that many a rock fan spend lifetimes among crates in search of. BLACK-METAL/DOOM. Doom fans should start getting giddy now - WOLFMANGLER is the forest-dwelling pseudonym of a certain Smolken, the Polish political émigré probably best known for his work under the DEAD RAVEN CHOIR moniker. Sometimes connected to the mysterious Jewelled Antler Collective, Smolken spends his time flitting between peculiar full-moon avant-folk and God-bothering black-metal evilness to devastating effect. However, WOLFMANGLER sees both leanings combined - we have the sentiment of black-metal embedded in a thick mire of droning forest sound. The result is utterly captivating and sounds unlike anything else you have probably ever heard, with distorted double-bass drones, pagan percussion and fairytale flutes bubbling beneath Smolken's strangled groans. This is demonical sound, and in its lack of the usual extremity you might expect from MAYHEM, DARKTHRONE and other such Northern European evil folks it becomes even more frightening. SCREAMO-HARDCORE. This originally came out on CD 7 years ago. Clean Plate did a limited one-time pressing of just 300 items; so yes they are expensive. The 10" comes with a full-color booklet and a printed cover. THE WOLVES are mostly known for their split 7" with AMPERE. On this 10" they're are playing politically introspective hardcore that has its roots in the chaotic emotive hardcore of the '90s, but their sound feels fresh and modern.
