HOPES DIES LAST
Your face down now (2008/STILL LIFE)
POST-HARDCORE. Italian rock phenomenon HOPES DIES LAST have been wowing crowds in their native country, and with the help of this MCD and an upcoming tour, hope to bring their passionate music to the rest of the world. They use melody and brutality the same way bands like SAOSIN and CHIODOS have been.
HOPESFALL
a-types (2004/TRUSTKILL)
POST-HARDCORE. Mixing dissonance and melody, HOPESFALL were a unique fixture on the hardcore musical landscape. Moody guitars that are as moving as they are weighty, growling yet haunting vocals are just a few of many things that set this band apart from their peers. With the addition of a few new members over the course of time, their writing seemed to leap to a new complexity this time around. The lyricism and vocal range are evidently expanded on "a-types". HOPESFALL held nothing back and let everything go on this one.
HOPESFALL
magnetic north (2007/TRUSTKILL)
POST-HARDCORE. Hailing from North Carolina, HOPESFALL developed in the hardcore and emo scene. "magnetic north" is a total aural assault. This new album is more intense, bigger tones, it’s trippier but not purely ethereal. There’s a lot of weight and heavy parts as well. The band has retained their soaring melodies, spacey guitars and seamless mesh of clean atmospherics with over-driven post-hardcore angst. It’s a highwire act writing music like this; either you walk the thin line or you fall to your inevitable death.
HOPESFALL
no wings to speak of (2008/TRUSTKILL)
POST-HARDCORE. When HOPESFALL originally released "no wings to speak of" on CD in 2001, it was regarded as one of the most groundbreaking and stunning melodic hardcore recordings of the era. Hauntingly beautiful, this band mixes frenzied hardcore with deliberate screaming while suddenly changing it up with quiet melodies and inspiring singing. Four songs that explore a more melodic and atmospheric sound with a plethora of bone-crushing breakdowns.
HORDE, THE
join or die (2005/1-2-3-4 GO)
HARDCORE. THE HORDE are really rocking their socks off. HOPE CONSPIRACY like hardcore has been brought together with old-school punk. It’s just no-nonsense aggressive music to drive your parents and neighbours mad. The 1st four songs have been recorded for 7” that came out in 2003. The band disbanded after that, but some power surge brought this undead band back among the living to make us all move. So they recorded 5 more songs, one of which is a MISFITS track. This music is like throwing saw blades into the audience. Blood on the dance floor can’t be avoided. Where’s the dotted line…ready to join?
HORRIBLE CROWES, THE
elsie (2011/SIDE ONE DUMMY)
INDIE/EMO-PUNK. Most of you know Brian Fallon as the frontman for THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM, an act who started out in Jersey basements and slowly built their way up to headlining New York's Music Hall. Despite the success Fallon has had with his main band he's always loved decidedly less rocking acts such as the AFGHAN WHIGS and TOM WAITS. THE HORRIBLE CROWES - his new side-project alongside longtime friend Ian Perkins - is his lounge-friendly tip of the hat to the acts who have shaped another side of his musical vision. Limited colored vinyl edition comes with gatefold-cover and includes a MP3 download card!
HORROR, THE
spoils for war (2009/ZANDOR/GROT)
HARDCORE-PUNK. "spoils of war" is a high velocity of power drenched hardcore, executed by experienced guys who have not only spent countless years harassing members of the public in the guise of THE HORROR - but prior to that wrecking our ears in the likes of IRONSIDE, VOORHEES, IMBALANCE etc.. Here we have 15 cuts of adrenalin charged fury, that is fast, in your face and a slap in the face to bands who think or pretend that they are hardcore. This is abrasive hardcore-punk comparable to American bands like 9 SHOCKS TERROR, DEVOID OF FAITH or THE REPOS, while keeping in touch with the intensity of VOORHEES.
HORROR, THE
the fear, the terror, the horror (2006/CHAINSAW SAFETY)
HARDCORE. Featuring ex members of VOORHEES and IMBALANCE, these UK hardcore veterans have compiled their 1st classic full-length album: 18 songs in 22 min.. On this album they tuned down and are playing faster than ever before. The lyrical content on this album targets everyone and does not make room for survivors. Prepare for the fear, the terror THE HORROR!
HORRORPOPS
bring it on (2005/HELLCAT)
PUNKABILLY. "bring it on" is the 2nd full-length release by rock 'n' rollers, HORRORPOPS. The album is a creepy, catchy, sexy, sordid, booze-drenched maelstrom of, needle prick guitar riffs, chest rattling bass, and ear-popping drums that is sure to grab you by the ears and twist 'em until they fall off! Their special brand of music can not be labeled as one type of music - so they chose to just call it rock! This album is truly a curiously dark musical jewel that almost anyone
HORRORPOPS
hell-yeah! (2004/HELLCAT)
PUNKABILLY. THE HORRORPOPS are a straight up rock 'n' roll band with their roots buried deep in '80s new wave, old-school punk and '50s rockabilly. If you like bands like BLONDIE, SIOUXSIE & THE BANCHEES, THE RAMONES, THE CRAMPS, THE NECROMANTIX, TIGER ARMY, REVERND HORTON HEAT, then THE HORRORPOPS new release "hell yeah" is a must-have for your record collection.
HORRORPOPS
kiss kiss kill kill (2008/HELLCAT)
PUNKABILLY. HORRORPOPS' 3rd release, "kiss kiss kill kill" finds the band perfectly poised betweeen the raw punk energy of their debut, 2004's "hellyYeah" and the brash, singalong pop of 2006's "bring it on". While never dropping HORRORPOPS' trademark sexy, horror-flick flair, "kiss kiss kill kill" brings back the rawness and immediacy that has made them the premiere touring band in the scene.Vinyl with 1 additional bonus track.
HOSTAGE CALM
lens (2009/REDSCROLL)
EMO-HARDCORE. "lens" is the debut full-length by Connecticut's best new band, HOSTAGE CALM (featuring members of AT ALL COSTS). "lens" contains 11tracks of politically charged melodic and modern-hardcore in the vein of common bands like CAPITOL, AMBITIONS, IGNITE or classics like DAG NASTY, RAIN and EMBRACE. Now available on limited colored vinyl.
HOSTAGE CALM
please remain calm (2012/RUN FOR COVER)
POP/EMO-PUNK. Following their self-titled release, "please remain calm" combines elements of SPRINGSTEEN-esque heartland rock with the band's signature blend of pop melody, '70s punk energy and '80s new-wave panache. This is a great emo-punk album - capturing the defeat, fury, and stagnation of what it feels like to be young in the American decline. Vinyl version includes a digital download card.
HOSTAGES OF AYATOLLAH
anthoalogy 1982-1989 (2009/X-MIST)

H.O.A. took the german scene by storm with their self-released 7" in '85. All of the tracks from this classic 7" and the songs from the split LP with MANSON YOUTH are included. Furthermore there are previously unreleased tracks taken from early demo on this item, and additionally the best tracks from "simply too much nothing" released in '88, shortly before they broke up. This is a true and timeless classic!
HOT CROSS
risk revival (2007/EQUAL VISION)
POST-HARDCORE. It is a rare but wonderful occurrence when a band can form out of friendships and last more than a few months. Greg (SAETIA, INTERPOL), Matt (OFF MINOR), Casey (YOU & I) and Josh (NEIL PERRY) formed HOT CROSS in the winter of 2000. "risk revival" is a pretty great album. It doesn't have the musical or instrumental stunners that "cryonics" did, and overall feels simpler, but HOT CROSS really stepped up their performance to make "risk revival" a visceral, strong album nonetheless. HOT CROSS is still, after all these years, a punch in the face. Their music is quick, furious, and really satisfying.
