ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES
have another ball (2008/FAT WRECK CHORDS)
POP-PUNK. ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES are up to their old hijinks with the release of their 7th full-length, "have another ball". In order to commemorate the 10th anniversary of their debut album, "have a ball", the Gimmes are releasing the 2nd installment of recordings from the original session. "have a ball" is chock-full of '70s classics from the likes of JOHN DENVER, HALL & OATES, NEIL DIAMOND and even ELTON JOHN, with that distinctive Gimme Gimmes twist. Vinyl version includes a bonus CD of the full album.
ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES
love their country (2006/FAT WRECK)
POP-PUNK. ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES, boasting members of NO FX, THE FOO FIGHTERS, LAG WAGOM and SWINGIN UTTERS are back, this time covering 13 of country music's most famous tunes, doing their best to pay tribute to legends such as Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Garth Brooks, The Dixie Chicks and more. Great as usual - nothing more.
ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES
sing in japanese (2011/FAT WRECK )
POP-PUNK. In keeping with the theme of their last release, ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES decided to tackle the proud musical tradition of another country, rather than a specific genre. This time they set their sights on the land of the rising sun, Japan. What a pairing. Japan is the birthplace of Karaoke for Pete's sake. And the Gimmes are the most renowned cover band around, if not for their actual musical chops, at least for their side endeavors (NO FX, LAG WAGON, SWINGIN' UTTRERS, FOO FIGHTERS).
ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES
take a break (2003/FAT WRECK)
POP-PUNK. On their 4th album "take a break", the band (comprised of NO FX, LAG WAGON, SWINGIN' UTTERS, and ex-NO USE FOR A NAME/FOO FIGHTERS members) lets their r&b roots shine and set to perfecting their break dancing moves to the sounds generated by their ghetto blasters. Songs like Seal's "crazy", R. Kelly's "i believe i can fly", and the Jackson Five's "i'll be there" all get the Gimme Gimmes treatment with hilarious results.
MEANS
to keep me from sinking (2008/FACEDOWN)
METALCORE. MEANS is back with their sophomore album, "to keep me from sinking". This four-piece is taking the US completely by surprise with their frenetic melody-infused breakdowns and tandem vocals that blend seamlessly from a high-octane hardcore voice to powerful and clear clean tone. These guys get right to the heart of the matter with forthright lyrics that compliment the intensity of the music; and ferociously intense it is. MEANS attacks each song with a severity that suggests complete surrender and immersion in the genre.
MEAT PUPPETS
Rise to your knees (2007/ANODYNE)
ALTERNATIVE-ROCK. "Rise to your knees" (recorded in the band's adopted home base of Austin, Texas) finds the Kirkwoods and new drummer Ted Marcus tapping into the same adventurous spirit that first put MEAT PUPPETS on the map, recapturing the transcendent highs of their most celebrated work. The resulting 14 tracks adds an inspired new chapter to the already massive legacy of a band whose body of music is an indispensable cornerstone of contemporary alternative rock.
MEATMEN, THE
pope on a rope (2008/MEAT KING)
HARDCORE-PUNK. Re-issue of the 1995 classic by THE MEATMEN. Tesco Vee recruits some new 'men and ups the dose to near death proportions. This fantastic recording features some insane covers like GANG GREEN's "alcohol", DEEP PURPLE's "space truckin'", THE SMITHS' "how soon is now" and a boatload of sarcastic and beautiful originals.
MEDICATION TIME
One free miracle ticket (2004/LIFE IS ABUSE)
HARDCORE. A spastic, sarcastic, piece of plastic. Imagine being stuck in an insane asylum with SEPTIC DEATH, RUDIMENTARY PENI and WESLEY WILLIS and then trying to write a record about your "trip"...only to discover you no longer remember how to play music, more or less tie your own shoes! Executed by recovering members of DYSTOPIA, SKAVEN and NIGEL PEPPER-COCK. Mad frantic trash grooves for dysfunctional members of society. LP comes in a nice designed gatefold sleeve, CD contains a 33 min. interview by local mind-maverick Saint Paul and a cover of SOFT CELL's "Sex dwarf". Intriguing mood-music for the new millenium.
MEDUSA
en raga sül (2009/HAWTHORNE STREETS/MONTOTONSTUDIO)
POST-HARDCORE. First release by this band featuring 3/4 of RACEBANNON! Pretty much in the same vein, they are combining the noise-rock aesthetics of THE JESUS LIZARD, with a riff-centric cyclone that sounds like SLAYER playing MELVINS covers through the MC5's equipment! Enhanced CD containing 15 tracks with a full playing-time of over 31min., plus video-files as bonus!
MEINE KLEINE DEUTSCHE
before people forget sound (2009/SOUND OF SUBTERRANIA)
POST-PUNK/NEW-WAVE. After 3 years of meticulous working and creating, throwing songs away to start all over again, the Stockholm based band finally presents their 3rd album "before people forget the sound". While still having the wildness ala BIKINI KILL to be heard on the 1st two albums, this 3rd release has more of a thoughtful and melancholic flow. But electroclash is nothing new, right? So, why is MEINE KLEINE DEUTSCHE is different than other bands? The answer is simple: their idea of punk doesn't start in 1977, it starts in 1967 and embraces the sound of THE MONKS just as well as THE VELVET UNDERGROUND. Once again MEINE KLEINE DEUTSCHE develops new ways from the outskirts of punk, electro, garage, and pop and they definitely have something to say. It's not only exciting: It makes "before people forget the music" one of a kind.
MEINE KLEINE DEUTSCHE
roky (2006/SOUNDS OF SUBTERRANIA)
POST-PUNK/NEW-WAVE. Wild and crazy, danceable and swinging, MEINE KLEINE DEUTSCHE stamps out boredom by grabbing it at the jugular. The line up was, and still is, two singers, a guitar and drum machine beats on a minidisc. The sound of it could be described as stripped down fucked up new-wave. MEINE KLEINE DEUTSCHE try to keep it simple, put on the drum machine and go.
MELTDOWN
demolition (2007/CLOSED CASKET ACTIVITIES)
HARDCORE. Originally formed featuring members of current New England area bands VERSE and LEARN, MELTDOWN is the warped product of one Pauly/Final Word Fanzine creator. And while most hardcore bands are mixing pop-punk into their sound in order to appeal to the masses, MELTDOWN resists this, taking a base blueprint of hardcore with influences like the CRO-MAGS and the almighty INTEGRITY, which is a pretty good place to start, and adding thrash and metal to the mix, reminiscent of old Bay-Area Thrashbands. The potent mixture serves the band well, with Pauly's lyrics serving up world apocalyptic views.
MEMENTO MORI
discography (2004/HYPERREALIST)
HARDCORE. MEMENTO MORI contain members of COBRA KAI, SUTEK CONSPIRACY and SCROTUM GRINDER. Metal tinged hardcore with the most scathing female vocals on the planet - just brutal. This CD has the songs from the LP, split 7" with KYLESA and 4 unreleased songs; 12 tracks in total.
MEMPHIS MAY FIRE
s/t (2007/TRUSTKILL)
POST-ROCK. The state of modern rock 'n' roll is at risk. The scene is flooded with bands that put no effort into originality and stage presence. These bands rely fully on their appearance and their trendy music to get them by. Enter MEMPHIS MAY FIRE, a fresh blend of southern rock, post-hardcore elements and straight up rock 'n' roll. MEMPHIS MAY FIRE doesn't need an extravagant light show, makeup and gimmicks to make the crowd go wild. With a high-energy live show, these boys will never let you down. You won't want to miss a second.
