RISE AGAINST
appeal to reason (2008/INTERSCOPE)
MELODYCORE/EMO-PUNK. You can’t force artistry. True musical creations are typically launched via pure inspiration or serendipitous moments and ideas that are often baked to perfection through sheer work and dedication. "appeal to reason" was created when RISE AGAINST simply engaged in their album making activity without over thinking and precisely planning every step. "appeal to reason" takes RISE AGAINST's signature melodic punk and hardcore songwriting style to new hights, continuing to infuse politics and current issues into their agenda. Their approach to this album like every other RISE AGAINST album... no approach at all.
RISE AGAINST
the sufferer & the witness (2006/GEFFEN)
MELODY/EMO-PUNK. RISE AGAINST's 4th album, "the sufferer & the witness", continues to build upon the solid punk foundation the band started upon it's inception. "the sufferer & the witness" is a striking collection, with RISE AGAINST using elements from spoken word, expanded balladry and simply prodding forward with a faster, harder, louder ethic. In fact, not only does this latest effort find RISE AGAINST infrequently referencing its own extensive back catalog, it's also a homecoming for the band's key production team. LP version features the bonus track "but tonight we dance".
RISE AGAINST
the unraveling (2001/FAT WRECK)
MELODYCORE. Now remixed, remastered and contains bonus tracks. From the ashes of 88 FINGERS LOUIE, comes Chicago's newest punk act, RISE AGAINST. This four piece plays their trademark punchy melodic hardcore with the zeal that some of its members are famous for. Retaining the style that they have previously trademarked, RISE AGAINST will prove to be the new monsters of the midway!
RISE AND FALL
into oblivion (2010/DEATHWISH)
HARDCORE. RISE AND FALL is punk-metal made flesh! Defining it more specifically? Imagine the sound of a cinderblock going through your windshield. A combination of Clevo- and New York-style hardcore (RINGWORM, INTEGRITY, CRO-MAGS, LEEWAY) and their love for bands like BLACK SABBATH, ENTOMBEd, MOTÖRHEAD and CELTIC FROST. Colored vinyl includes a digital download card.
RISE AND FALL
our circle is vicious (2009/DEATHWISH)
HARDCORE. Four years since the release of their classic album "into oblivion", RISE AND FALL from Beligum makes their rightful return to the throne as the kings of dark, ominous hardcore. Bone shattering heaviness and unorthodox melodies - each song demonstrates a post-apocalyptic life with an electrifying intensity. Blurring the divisions and dismissing the limitations that exist within much of contemporary heavy music. Colored vinyl includes a MP3 download card.
RITES OF SPRING
s/t (2009/DISCHORD)
EMOCORE/POST-PUNK. One of the forefathers of emotional post-punk and hardcore, this classic mid '80s era DC band features Guy Picciotto and Brendan Canty who later formed FUGAZI. CD contains their 4 track 7" as well a previously unreleased track not on any other releases. Original recorded in 1985 - know your roots! The vinyl was re-cut and re-mastered in 2009 and comes with a digital download card.
RITES OF SPRING
six song demo (2012/DISCHORD)
EMOCORE/POST-PUNK. These 6 songs capture RITES OF SPRING in their earliest stages with original bassist Mike Fellows and entered Inner Ear Studios to document the handful of songs they had written before Fellows left. Once the band played out, the songs gained velocity and intensity, but many of the elements that defined their music - frenzied energy, sharp melodies and introspective lyrics - were already very much in place. The release has been remastered from the original tapes and is presented exactly as it was on those cassettes in 1984 complete with the tape collages and assorted audio-graffiti. Vinyl version includes a digital download card.
RITES OF THY DEGRINGOLADE
An ode to sin (2005/NUCLEAR WAR NOW)
This is the second full-length album from RITES OF THY DEGRINGOLADE, a Canadian group that sprung from the ashes of SACRAMENTARY ABOLISHMENT. They play chaotic, technical black/death metal in the Canadian tradition of VOIVOD, DISCIPLES OF POWER, and a touch of BLASPHEMY. The drums are the most notable aspect of this album. They're all over the place - pounding, slamming, marking time only to spin off into wild improvisational passages. This makes sense, considering that the central member of this band, Paulus, is also the drummer. Still, the guitar and bass are equally punishing. Vocals are vomited force with ferocious hatred. The songwriting on this album is chaotic yet still coherent and structured. The technical skill on display here is matched only by the unrelenting nature of the music. This album rarely gives the listener a break, and when it does, it immediately takes off on another attack. This constancy makes for an immersive listening experience, as do the lyrics, which are much more thoughtful than the usual fare.
RITES, THE
not fucking entertainment (2003/DEAD ALIVE)
HARDCORE. What started out as a project band between members of TEAR IT UP, DOWN AND FLAMES, and CUT THE SHIT has turned into a vicious and obnoxious monster. This release blasts through 10 songs of raw and confrontational hardcore with an early '80s punk sort of recklessness. Fans of early POISON IDEA and early Boston hardcore take notice. The CD version also contains the "your last rites" 7" and a live set recorded on a Boston radio show.
RITUAL
beneath aging flesh and bone (2009/REFLECTIONS)
HARDCORE. To put it simply...RITUAL is a hardcore band of 4 young passionate musicians who combine their individuality to form a statement against the mental and emotional downfalls of society and the hardcore/punk scene. In these times where life is defined by numbers and not by values, RITUAL is set to be an inspiration for a new state of mind and heart. Their strong roots in ‘90s edge cannot be denied musically, politically or emotionally. After the release of "wolves", RITUAL has matured and teenage angst turns to adult despair and frustration. "beneath aging flesh and bone" is their most reflective and darkest material to date.
RITUAL
paper skin (2011/REFLECTIONS)
HARDCORE. Describing RITUAL to someone who has not experienced this band live is a difficult thing to do. In fact, that's what the band is all about: getting lost in the moment, denying the present, saying "no" to everything. RITUAL are doing so for more than 5 years now. Hitting the roads of Europe as often as they can and playing as hard as they can. "paper skin" reaches a new level in their development seeking distance from their rock-orientated take on hardcore. The songs do not depend so much on riffs but on a deep atmosphere that is built up by layered guitars. The outcome is more intimate then ever before and perfectly catches the mood that is evoked by the personal and even sensual lyrics. RITUAL however didn’t back down and still are as as energetic, aggressive and hard as ever before. Vinyl comes in a beautiful gatefold sleeve.
RITUAL
precious times (2006/FIELDS OF HOPE)
HARDCORE. "precious times" feature 10 tracks of '90s influenced new-school mosh in the vein of UNBROKEN. If your into modern hardcore like THE HOPE CONSPIRACY and MODERN LIFE IS WAR you should check them out!
RIVAL MOB, THE
mob justice (2013/REVELATION)
HARDCORE. Drawn up by some of the most unsavory souls in the Boston underground hardcore scene and reinforced by members who have done time in infamous area bands like MIND ERASER, RIGHTEOUS JAMS, METAL xFILESx and many others. In between serving time with their current other projects WORLD WAR 4, GIVE, NO TOLERANCE and BOSTON STRANGLER, the band's Revelation Records debut picks up right where their previous 7", "hardcore for hardcore" left off, with a vocalist that spewing venom, all delivered over fast, stage dive-inspiring hardcore that brings to mind the best of mid-late '80s New York hardcore bands. Re-press on colored vinyl includes a digital download card.

RIVAL SCHOOLS
pedals (2011/PHOTO FINISH)
INDIE-ROCK. When Walter Schreifels, Sammy Siegler, Ian Love and Cache Tolman joined forces, they were touted a supergroup, having played in bands like GORILLA BISCUITS, YOUTH OF TODAY, QUICKSAND, BURN, CIV and ICEBURN, to name a few. With a shared desire to continue progressing forward from their roots in the hardcore scene, the guys crafted a sound that fused rock of all varieties with anthemic melodies and sophisticated hooks. "pedals" is their 2nd album, and their first full-length in almost a decade.
RKL
come on in.. (0/MALT SODA)
HARDCORE. RKL (RICH KIDS ON LSD) was a staple for Santa Barbra, Los Angeles, San Francisco, punk rock formed in 1982. They were associated with the "nardcore" scene that evolved out of nearby Oxnard. Their music expanded over the years from West Coast hardcore to a mix of hardcore with rock elements. This DoCD+DVD box set captures punk legends RKL in the act at The Pound in San Francisco, CA, once in 2004 playing to a sold-out room and the other in 2005, which ended up being their last show ever.
