SETTING SON, THE
s/t (2007/BAD AFRO)
GARAGE-ROCK. Sebastian T.W. Kristiansen is the young and shy brainchild behind THE SETTING SON. This unusual talent has composed more than 50 songs and recorded them on his small 4-track taperecorder in his flat in Copenhagen. These demos turned out to be brilliant and a batch of songs was later recorded by a full band and ended up as the debut album by THE SETTING SON. The trademark sound of THE SETTING SON is bubblegum psych with strong melodies and hooks galore. Some songs are rather angry and desperate while others are melancholic and sensitive. Not to forget his snotty vocals that is highly addictive once they get under your skin.
SETTLE FOR LESS
INDIE-ROCK. SETTLE FOR LESS released their debut called "greetings" a while ago - that captured a young band figuring out their sound and style by taking nods from BRAND NEW and others. "contemporary" showcases a growth that many bands experience by their 2nd or 3rd full-length, and now feel at home in both basements and larger venues. The ride has just begun and this release hints at what is in store. CD includes "greetings" as bonus tracks. Vinyl includes a digital download card.
crawl & reign (2009/DEMONS RUN AMOK/GSR)
HARDCORE. This new outing sees THE SETUP evolving in their signature sound, whilst tuning down a notch and adding the rawest and most vicious riffs they've conjured so far, creating a dark, gloomy and above all heavy album, which is bound to pass the test of time. Since "minister of death" 2 previous members quit a lot. Now they're back with a devastating release, ready to continue the road to the top. The 5 rage and anger spitting tracks on "crawl & reign" are a warming up for the next The SETUP full-length album.
minister of death (2007/GSR)
HADCORE. THE SETUP is back with their 2nd full-length album. From the first song on you hear that this album is an overall improvement compared to their previous full-length. "minister of death" is above all a heavy album, drawing influences from a wide range of sources yet always remaining focussed and soul destroyingly heavy staying faithful to the individual style The Setup created and call their own. Compare it to bands like SICK OF IT ALL, MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD and TERROR and this band doesn’t knuckle under for those bands.
the pretense of normality (2005/GSR)
HARDCORE. THE SETUP is here to unleash hell upon the world with their debut album titled “the pretense of normality”. The music is crushing in its delivery and flawlessly executed, which is a standard that THE SETUP have become to be known for from their live shows. “the pretense of normality” is everything a great hardcore record should be and more, with 11 tracks that mesmerize from start to finish and pummel the listener into submission with their dark discordant grooves and destructive breakdowns mixed with thundering drums and a seething vocal delivery.
HARDCORE. A better proof of how THE SETUP managed to survive and conquer the line up changes from the past 2 years, in a more than professional and fantastic way could not be given! All those who doubted the continuation of the band, will be proven wrong forever. "torchbearer" contains 12 bone crushing songs that will grab you by the throat and leave you breathless. This record is by far the heaviest album they ever wrote. It captures their trademark live sound, so expect 33min. of exploding guitar riffing, hard hitting drums and vicious vocals.
the undisputed truth (2007/FACEDOWN)
HARDCORE. 2005 saw the release of "brood of vipers", which took SEVENTH STAR to the next level professionally, musically, and lyrically. "the undisputed truth" will make no compromises. The album's theme is the restoration of creation. Exploring the need for answers and purpose. Bold lyrics with a point. In a scene where bands hop from trend to trend, SEVENTH STAR stand as a band with a message. Their music has purpose. Their purpose gives birth to music. And their purpose restores the creation who yearns for its creator.
SEVERED HEAD OF STATE
anathema device (2003/HARDCORE HOLOCAUST)
CRUST-HARDCORE. Dark, absolutely crushing hardcore! An amalgam of various influences, from mood driven crust, to modern hardcore, to full blown Japanese distortion and Scandinavian crustcore, all blended to create a venomous assault on the senses. Topped off with utterly blasphemous lyrics set to lay humankind and its gods to waste
SEVERED HEAD OF STATE
power hazard (2007/HAVOC)
HARDCORE-PUNK. SEVERED HEAD OF STATE return with 9 punishing tracks. Hard driving riffs and angry vocals give this release a real fist pumping intensity. A lot of the songs are more mid tempo in the tradition of mid period POISON IDEA and other hardcore punk bands that took some cues from MOTÖRHEAD. An amalgam of various influences, from mood driven crust, to modern hardcore, to full blown Japanese distortion and Scandinavian crustcore, all blended to create a venomous assault on the senses. SEVERED HEAD OF STATE have been going for ten years now, but are a band with no geographic center and with all members playing in other bands (current TRAGEDY, WARCRY, WORLD BURNS TO DEATH, SIGNAL LOST etc.). The CD version of this release also contains the "charge ahead" and "fucking butchery" 7"s as bonus tracks.
SEX MANIACS, THE
mean as hell (2004/MANIC RIDE)
HARDCORE-PUNK. This UK hardcore act features 3 members of VOORHEES teamed with 1 member of THE HORROR to bring you a concise 22min. offering of fuckin' rock 'n' roll fury. Expect tons of rocked out chord progressions with a hardcore-punk bite. Combining the sleaze of the DWARVES, the spirit of MOTÖRHEAD, the bad attitude of BLACK FLAG, some riffs stolen from AC/DC, and washing it down with a fifth of well whiskey, the SEX MANIACS dirty up your stereo with the kind of music that your mother warned you about.
HARDCORE. Born out of the untimely demise of hardcore stalwarts THE DEDICATION, SEX POSITIONS was conceived. A vessel for true artistic progression, SEX POSITIONS harbor just as many new wave and classic punk influences as they do traditional hardcore.
save it (1995/REVELATION)
MELODIC-HARDCORE. 11 tracks from this tried and true melodic hardcore band. Produced by Bill Stevenson of All/Descendents. A fierce rant in the face of everything that sucks.
seeing things (1996/REVELATION)
MELODIC-HARDCORE. "seeing things" is the newest release, again brought to us by the production team of Stevenson/Egerton and again on Revelation Records. Where as "save it" was a 200 beat-per-minute articulation of pent-up anger and frustration, "seeing things" is not quite so fast and furious. The band maintains an overriding power and genuine emotion, but there's also a more melodic edge, reminiscent of writers like JOE JACKSON or SQUEEZE.
it's monster rock (2007/FIENDFORCE)
HORRORPUNK. Re-release of the 1st SHADOW REICHENSTEIN album. "it's monster rock" with it's 11 tracks is pure horror that overwhelms the listener with insights of what monsters would do if they were given guitars. The driving force of guitars give that rowdy energy that makes you want to do just that - wake the dead. The attitude of Shadow's voice makes it that much more appealing; that raspy, macabre approach is fantastic. The influences are all over the map; goth, punk, psychobilly and surf-punk. The smooth flow of the vocals along with the keyboard gives the inkling of the desperation of a long dead spirit pleading for his long overdue recognition from beyond the grave. If there is a band ready to take on the world and fill the shoes of the aforementioned giants - it's SHADOW RECHENSTEIN.
DEATH-METAL/METALCORE. Massachusetts metallers SHADOWS FALL is back with their 5th full-length, a dreadlock-swinging, 10 track epic of American metal influenced by European melodic death-metal and heavy metalcore crunch.
