DRONE/AMBIENT/BLACK-METAL. BURIAL HEX is a one-man black-noise project by Wisconsin's Clay Ruby, who throws together homemade oscillators, scraps of metal, various effects and organs. As dark ambient, ceremonial noise goes, this is of the very finest order, sounding genuinely unsettling and sonically adventurous, while being absolutely soaked in atmosphere. Production wise the 4 tracks (73min.), BURIAL HEX is a more developed and varied sounding - from incinerated orchestral racket, through vicious, grunting electronic drone, there's plenty of depth here - the sheer blackness will win over even the most insatiable noise followers. Limited to just 500 copies. Highly recommended.

HARDCORE. At first listen to BURIAL YEAR's debut full length, it's comparable to entering a humid, rat infested basement crammed with a simmering stew of sociopaths and other societal dregs beating the bloody hell out of one another. Driven by the same ravenous hate and blood thirsty brutality of DISCORDANCE AXIS AND ASSÜCK, BURIAL YEAR are paving a new path straight through the filthy depths of today's slowly decaying hardcore and metal compost pile. "pestilence" is the most challenging and technical album BURIAL YEAR's members have released to date, featuring an extremely rhythmic heavy foundation, complex metallic riffing, and politically charged venomous words.

This, their debut LP, is a furious blend of technical/progressive-metal, grind, and hardcore, with just a little bit of melody thrown into the mix to keep things interesting. The 5 songs on this LP are fast, brutal and catchy as hell. The packaging, while simple, is quite nice as well - 2-color cardboard stock outer sleeve with great artwork, and it comes with a 3-color foldout insert with more art and lyrics. NOISE/SLUDGE. Originally released on Tumult way back in 2000, this primal slab of dual bassed downtuned sonic mayhem, may still rank as one of the heaviest, most vitriolic chunks of sound this city ever produced. A prime slab of chaotic grind, laced with WHITEHOUSE like noise, and bursts of metallic fury, not to mention a black hole entropy that found most songs falling apart into long stretches of broken amp feedback or crushed drum kit clatter. This LP includes their blistering cover version of BLACK FLAG's "i've heard it before" previously released on their rare "treaties of greed and filth" 7". The packaging is gorgeous and over the top. The sleeve is silkscreened, with all of the visual elements from the CD. The vinyl is thick and pressed on colored vinyl, housed in a thick inner sleeve. Limited edition of 500 copies! HARDCORE. You'll get 23 tracks from this two-piece collaboration between Chris Dodge of Slap A Ham/SPAZZ and Bob of Deep Six/LACK OF INTEREST. The tracks are fast and furious with an angry spirit. Musically somewhat comparable to early D.R.I. or CONDEMNED TO DEATH. Raw, aggressive, and angry hardcore.
