DIRECT EFFECT
forget the rest (2012/GET OUTTA TOWN)
EMO-PUNK. DIRECT EFFECT is back with a new singer, a new sound and a new 7". "forget the rest" is a real breath of fresh air out of the Florida music scene. Jeff Fonseca has taken over on vocal duties providing a melody and throaty sound to his introspective and personal lyrics.
DIRTY CHINESE THIEVES
über alles (2009/D.I.Y.)
HARDCORE-PUNK. Amazing debut of Toronto-Ontario Canada based band. In a genre gone horribly impotent, it's relieving to know there's a band like DIRTY CHINESE THIEVES is keeping punk hard and fast. The album contains an anuditory barrage of criminally short songs for the attention depraved. The band manage to keep it straight, delivering buoyant bouts of chant-a-long, three chord blasts. Pulling from the brevity of early BLACK FLAG, the twisted humour of HENRY FIATS OPEN SORE and the effortlessness of DEAN DIRG. "über alles" is as unusual as it is inspiring. Self released by the band and limited to 300 copies. Get it while you can!
DIRTY GIRLS
Murder mountain (2007/PRIME DIRECTIVE)
HARDCORE. Southern California's DIRTY GIRLS feature members of bands like STREET TRASH, LE SHOK, GOD'S IRON TOOTH and TREADWELL and play a dirty, metallic style of hardcore that somehow crosses the styles of GEHENNA, APARTMENT 213 and INTERGRITY and never lets up on the negativity. DIRTY GIRLS brings the perfect blend of brooding metalic-rock and brutal hardcore together.
DIRTY MARQUEE
s/t (2011/SQUIRMY)
PUNK-ROCK. This self-titled 7" features 4 beautifully composed jangly pop-punk songs from the street-level perspective of a crumbling society. Once again the Bay-Area exports highly-contemplative, undeniably catchy tunes. Subtely exquisite cover art and hand-stamped labels. DIRTY MARQUEE features former members of SHOTWELL, GRUMPIES, ONE REASON etc..
DISAPPEARER
the clearing (2009/MAGIC BULLET)
POST-HARDCORE. DISAPPEARER have been refining a sound that harnesses the power of NEUROSIS, the IRE and angst of ENGINE KID, the precise musicality and movement of QUICKSAND and the bleak thematic temperament of JOY DIVISION, all while one member was cavorting around the country as a member of DOOMRIDERS. It strikes a harmonious balance of discordant guitar work, massive bass tone, soulful singing, and cathartic, purposeful drum striking... a truly cohesive album. Double vinyl version includes a digital dowload card.
DISAPPEARS
guider (2011/KRANKY)
INDIE-ROCK. 2010 was a busy year for the DISAPPEARS. They finally saw their debut album "lux" released, they did a fair amount of touring, and they recorded this new album. "guider" means to control or influence, which is what all the songs ended up beingabout in one form or another. This is a heads down, blinders on, damn the distractions, forward driving, controlled squall. Drop the needle, turn up the volume and surrender to the delicious. For fans of SPACEMEN 3, TELEVISION, SUICIDE and JESUS & MARY CHAIN.
DISAPPROVAL
el monte youth authority (2013/THICK SKIN)
HARDCORE. Hailing from the working-class Los Angeles suburb of El Monte, DISAPPROVAL play a mean style of hardcore that personifies growing up in a faceless, vast suburban wasteland taking cues from bands like THINK I CARE, HOAX and HOUNDS OF HATE.
DISASSOCIATE
imperfect world (2000/MIA)
GRINDCORE. DISASSOCIATE is a grinding hardcore band with members of JESUS CHRUST, DARKSIDE NYC and BRUTAL TRUTH. Recorded and produced by Steve Austin of Today Is The Day. This is a relentless and crushing album fueled by epic bong hits of medical grade weed. A true old-school grindcore album by these NYC veterans. Brutal, pissed, uncompromising and heavy as fuck. Topped off with amazing cover art by Erik Roper (Sleep, High On Fire), pressed on minty green marble vinyl.
DISASTER
war cry (2012/LA VIDA ES UN MAS)
HARDCORE. Originally released in 1991 DISASTER was one of the 1st purely DISCHARGE influenced bands to span what later become popularly known as d-Beat. Hailing from Halifax, they were part of a new wave of raging UK bands with worshiped "why" as the finest piece of non-music ever recorded. DISASTER faded into obscurity shortly after releasing their LP and "war cry" became a classic record among raw hardcore fans. This reissue comes with an extra 7"-Flexi including 2 DISCHARGE covers. It also comes with a hughe 12 pages booklet containing flyers, pictures, interview and other memorabilia. Please not that only the 1st press will come with a 7"-Flexi!!
DISASTER, THE
black and white and red all over (2002/ASSAULT)
HARDCORE. Lyrically dark and desperate, THE DISASTER come out of New York City with a blast of powerful and melodic hardcore with raspy forced singing. The music is classic hardcore with melodic sensibilities. THE DISASTER sound like the most incredible combination of KID DYNAMITE, ANOTHER BREATH and VERSE. The hoarse vocals are hard and harsh. They fuel the music with angst-ridden lyrics about depression, death and other dismal outcomes. Great lyrics, fast-paced drumming, blazing guitars, and thumping bass propel this into a fireball of fury. Every song is short, unyielding, and lethal. While banging out straight-ahead adrenalized rhythms, THE DISASTER is capable of sneaking in gusts of catchy melody.
DISCHARGE
apocalypse now (2010/PEACEVILLE)
HARDCORE. This release is the live recording of the band at the Lyceum London in 1981. If you are expecting a clean spit and polish release, forget it this captures the raw power of the DISCHARGE sound warts and all. This gig was the catalyst of what became the legendary "apocalypse now" tour that went around the UK in early '80s. A tour that also included EXPLOITED, ANTI PASTI and CHRON GEN.
DISCHARGE
decontrol (2011/HAVOC)
HARDCORE. Classic 3 song rager from 1980. Less than a year removed from "realities of war" the sound is already faster and more aggressive, leaving '70s punk behind and blazing into pure hardcore raw punk. This record has 3 of DISCHARGE's best songs which are just pure blasts of raw anger and urgency. UK hardcore as it's best!
DISCHARGE
disensitise: (2010/VILE)
HARDCORE. DISCHARGE are one of the most influential bands of hardcore and punk. Now many purest complain about how the new DISCHARGE has Rat from THE VARUKERS taking over vocal duties. The 14 track album is just as brutal as "hear nothing, see nothing, say nothing". Bones after his tenure with BROKEN BONES has finely tuned his guitar skill and rips like few punks can. The snare is constantly battering your brain, the bass guitar’s exploration of the genre is clear, you can almost hear the spit hitting the mic from Rat’s screaming, the guitar is not as crushing as their other albums but this allows the bass to be heard. If you like DISCHARGE get this album.
DISCHARGE
early demos march to june 1977 (2011/ANTI SOCIETY)
PUNK-ROCK. DISCHARGE was formed in 1977 by Ivan Rivera (vocals) and Roy Wainwright (guitar). They soon recruited Terry's younger brother Tony Roberts on lead guitar, Nigel Bamford on bass and Tony Axon on drums. The band recorded their 1st demo, and saw them supporting bands such as The Ruts, The Clash and The Damned. This line-up recorded a demo in 1977. The musical style of the band was initially influenced by 1977-era punk bands such as the SEX PISTOLS, THE DAMNED and THE CLASH. This LP is limited to 1000 copies. This is where it all started for the band from Stoke, sounding more like SEX PISTOLS, but still a great history of where the band came from.
DISCHARGE
fight back (2011/HAVOC)
HADCORE. "fight back" contains 5 song blast of pure anger and energy - DISCHARGE at their finest here. Pure beat raw hardcore-punk against which all the successors can be measured. This hard driving music is the perfect vehicle for the outrage at war and oppression conveyed by the harsh lyrics and graphics.
