DO MAKE SAY THINK
other truths (2009/CONSTELLATION)
POST-ROCK. The 6th full-length from DO MAKE SAY THINK defiantly features 4 long-form tracks, 3 of which clock in at over 10min., and all of which trace the inimitable musical arcs that have made this band justly celebrated for their unique sonic palette and vibrant distillation of compositional forms and influences into some of the past decade's most consistently rich and rewarding instrumental rock. 180gr. Vinyl version includes limited edition poster and CD copy of the album.
death set the beginning of my journey (2010/KREATION)
BLACK-METAL. It is hard to describe the brilliance that is DODSFERD. Wrath, hailing from Greece makes some of the most fucked up, psychedelic and original black-metal today. Wrath's songwriting style tilts toward the epic, with 6 tracks clocking in at anywhere from 6 to 9 min. in length. The riffs are totally black-metal but bring some comparisons to the crusty hardcore and d-beat stuff - but in a good way. The vocals up front with tripped out echoes in the background. True raw black-metal junkies will surely love this.
maniac (2011/WHISPER IN THE DARK)
HARDCORE-PUNK. "maiac" contains 4 unreleased and nearly lost tracks. Ripping thrash and hard punk impalement! The sound of metallic ENGLISH DOGS, ONE WAY SYSTEM and "bonecrusher" era BROKEN BONES from PDX stalwarts. This is a one time press of 500 copies.
pure hate (2010/FLAT BLACK)
HARDCORE. These Ventura/Oxnard skate-punks are back in-your-face with their sophomore release "pure hate". This is great skate-thrash that doesn't get bland due to their execution of varying tempos and smooth transitions that keep you on your toes. With the subject matter still being light and humorous this is a record that will get you pissed and make you laugh all at once. Take their Nardcore roots and mix that in with great skate-thrash like EPILEPTIC TERROR ATTACK with the humor of TESCO VEE and you got yourself some "pure hate".
the butcher (2008/SECRET)
HARDCORE. "the butcher" is the highly acclaimed debut release for this Ventura based "fatcore" band. Taking cues from neighboring city Oxnard, DOGENDS play early "Mystic Records" styled hardcore that makes you think of those bands from 1983. Fast hardcore but with that slight metal tinge to it. Sounds like the first NO FX 7" mixed with some RKL and THE G.R.I.M..
DOGS OF IRE / ROGUE STATE
EXPERIMENTAL/NOISE. DOGS OF IRE overthrow the senses and thrash the place with high energy and twisted noisy mayhem. They deliver 4 hard hitting jams that are raw, dark and explosive. ROGUE STATE finishes you off with 6 brutally technical assaults. Off-timed and rhythmic, ROGUE STATE deliver a pummeling wall of sound comparable to no one. This is an urgent and exciting split to experience.
s/t (2010/STATE OF MIND)
POP-PUNK. Dolarhyde from Birmingham play pop-punk that could have landed them on the early Fat Wreck or Epitaph roster, kind of like NO USE FOR A NAME, PENNYWISE or LAG WAGON. Colored vinyl includes MP3 download code.
guillotine ride (2009/REACT WITH PROTEST)
SCREAMO-HARDCORE. This is the debut of the new band from Sean and Matt from CEASE UPON THE CAPITOL. Continuing where CEASE UPON THE CAPITOL stopped but taking it to the next level DOLCIM is delievering 11 melodic songs full of passion and grief.
we carry the fire (2009/REACT WITH PROTEST)
SCREAMO-HARDCORE. The latest output of Tennessees epic loudness monsters. Still very melodic and atmospheric but with a big potion of heavy rock to it. DOLCIM contain 2 members of CEASE UPON THE CAPITOL. DOLCIM continue where CEASE UPON THE CAPITOL left off, but add dynamic, whirling guitars and a bit more melody . The songs contained on "we carry fire" are intense and the vocals are a particular strong point. All in all, "we carry fire" is a solid record worth checking out if you like chaotic but melodic screamo.
DOLCIM / HAMMERS
split (2010/REACT WITH PROTEST)
HARDCORE/POST-HARDCORE. This split features 2 awesome new tunes from the almighty HAMMERS - the name from this UK dudes is more than programm. The tracks hits you like a hammer - melodic and heavy hardcore with a crusty edge. DOLCIM deliever and alternative recording of "richard". Heavy tunes with this almost post-rockish edge and atmospheric parts.
DOMESTIC WAR / IN THE DAY
split (2011/OFF THE MAP)
HARDCORE/POP-PUNK. Two different styles collide on this 7" with DOMESTIC WAR bringing a '90s upstate New York sound comparable to EARTH CRISIS but cover BLINK 182 while Erie's IN THE DAY play a pop-punk sound similar to NEW FOUND GLORY and cover 100 DEMONS. Colored 7" includes a MP3 download card.
POST-HARDCORE. It's been 4 years since their previous album, but now DOMINIC is finally ready with album number 3, "persona". The band has had its focus on catching the nerve and roughness the live format adds, without spending too much time on post production. With the new album DOMINIC took a different approach and thus "persona" marks a new step in their history as a band. DOMINIC have always been hard to label, but attemps to characterise them have used terms such as hardcore, post-hardcore, screamo and post-rock. These are all genres the band is well known with, and musically DOMINIC is probably somewhere within. Thick 180gr vinyl comes with a digital download card.
gang banged with a headache, and live (2013/JOYFUL NOISE)
POST/INSTRUMENTAL-ROCK. The 1st ever live album from legendary instrumental juggernaut DON CABALLERO. "gang banged with a headache, and live" is a recently-unsurfaced authorized bootleg from the math-rock founders. With material spanning from 1993's "for respect" to songs that would end up on 2006's "world class listening problem", "gang banged..." includes a decade's worth of quintessential DON CABALLERO material. Limited edition.
POST/INSTRUMENTAL-ROCK. DON CABALLERO, propelled as always by drumming virtuoso Damon Che, twists and turns through 14 new tracks on its brand new album "Punkgasm". "Punkgasm" explodes with all of the band's legendary trademarks: wildly inventive poly-rhythms; layers of looping guitar acrobatics; rich melodies and textures; and expansive compositions that evolve and unfold from start to finish. For fans of SONIC YOUTH, FUGAZI, SLINT, SHELLAC, BATTLES, HELMET and PELICAN.
POST-ROCK. One of the most advanced noise creators and simultaneously one of the neatest outfits there are. Hardly anyone in that genre has accomplished a tighter match of 2 antagonisms - chaos and structure. DON VITO’s "IV" is a brute piece of greatness. The essence after 10 furious and fast songs…there is a deep end. A deeper end than it seems at 1st, 2nd, 5th listening. What we initially think of as noise with a head nodding effect has a lot more structure and thought-through-ness than it looks like on the surface. DON VITO is much more. Comes as a one-sided LP with silkscreen on the flipside plus additional CD.
