I HATE OUR FREEDOM
this year's best disaster (2012/I SURRENDER)
INDIE-ROCK. Originally formed in 2008 by members of GARISON, TEXAS IS THE REASON, THURSDAY and MILHOUSE, New York's I HATE OUR FREEDOM recorded these 10 tracks with Kurt Ballou, busting out infectious punk-influenced indie-rock in the same vein as RIVAL SCHOOL, SAMIAM, JAWBREAKER or QUICKSAND. Limited edition of 500 colored copies.
I HATE THIS
trimming the fat (2009/GIVE PRAISE)
HARDCORE. I HATE THIS are back with more raw and punk styled thrashy hardcore from the forests of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Female fronted raw and short blasts of furious and pissed off hardcore, blaze through, the best tracks of their earlier releases.
I HATE THIS / RAW SEWAGE
split (2008/GIVE PRAISE)
HARDCORE. I HATE THIS play raw and fast female fronted thrashy hardcore that is always pissed off and straightforward, while the now-defunct RAW SEWAGE bring beer-drenched thrashcore with a hint of grind and classic power-violence along the lines of HELLNATION.
I HEART HIROSHIMA
the rip (2010/CARGO)
INDIE-ROCK/POP. There’s a lot to like about scrappy proto-grunge trio I HEART HIROSHIMA. There’s the unabashed ’90s revivalism, or the fact that they’re resurrecting the long lost art of male-female vocal jousting. Thankfully, what I HEART HIROSHIMA do retain on their 2nd album is a penchant for oblique lyrical content, often stories of love. "the rip" is a concise, easily digestible work from a hard-working Australian band that continue to impress. Say what you will about the album in the long run, but for now it’s difficult to ignore music with this degree of likability.
I LIKE TRAINS
he who saw the deep (2010/ILR)
POST-ROCK. Since the last album, the band have lost a member, parted company with their record label, streamlined their sound to within a whisper of the reverb drenched symphonies of yore and ditched the historical passages for more ambiguous references towards the present and future. "he who saw the deep" is a sturdy representation of I LiKE TRAiNS' progression as songwriters and arrangers. Their next venture will be crucial, yet the adventurous nature of this record, coupled with a relentless desire to succeed, suggests their crowning glory may still be to come. LP comes with stylish gatefold-cover.
I LIKE TRAINS
the shallows (2012/ILR)
POST-ROCK. I LIKE TRAINS release their 3rd album "the shallows" on Leeds' ILR Records. The band have experimented more with their sound with a greater use of synthesizers on this record while historical subject matter has made way for lyrics more focused on modern technology and the worrying grip it holds over us all. "the shallows" explores their relationships with technology. "the shallows" deals with themes of information overload.
old, miserable bums (2002/625)
HARDCORE. A face-smashing mug-punch of super original, fast hardcore punk from Sweden's ripping I QUIT. 8 screaming songs rocked with quirky time changes, unusual riffs, and blinding speed, recalling shit like RAPED TEENAGERS and DIE KREUZEN.
I REFUSE / UNRESTRAINED
HARDCORE. Two of the more politically and socially motivated bands come together on this split, with Vermont locals UNRESTAINED taking a page out of the '90s hardcore book with a sound comparable to HARVEST, UNDERTOW and INDECISION while Ontario, Canada's I REFUSE bringing a chaotic, yet melodic, style of hardcore akin to early BOY SETS FIRE.
no prospect, no amnesty (2012/GIVE PRAISE)
HARDCORE. Radical and in-your-face hardcore from Oklahoma. This is fast, raw, and their final recorded output! They shared a 7" with NO MANS SLAVE. They combine political vocals and a rash of what is annoying them at this present state of the world. Blended with excellent raw and angry hardcore.
for redemption (2008/1917)
HARDCORE. I RISE (comprised of former members of YOUTH ATTACK and current members of AMBITIONS) brings us "for redemption", a record that builds on their hard-hitting, mid-tempo sound that's blended with charged lyrics, a style that is reminiscent of some mid/late '90s bands but with a their own, brand new flavor. For fans of BANE, HAVE HEART and AMBITIONS.
I WALK THE LINE
language of the lost (2010/ROOKIE)
PUNK-ROCK. Hailing from Helsinki, Finland, I WALK THE LINE deliver their 4th full-length album. The band plays yetr again dark resonant, melodic, edgy punk, pulling from such influences as ROCKET FROM THE CRYPT, THE CLASH, ADOLESCENTS and MURDER CITY DEVILS.. the list could go on and on but I WALK THE LINE are all about listening to everybody and everything with an open mind and doing things their own way no matter what.
I WANT YOU DEAD
HARDCORE. I WANT YOU DEAD's new 7'' includes 4 songs of dark and passionate hardcore. Strongly influenced by the Holy Terror scene (INTEGRITY, RINGWORM, CURSED and PULLING TEETH. Metallic, downtuned and blackened hardcore varying from the old-school intensity to the crust and even black, metal aesthetics. Limited edition of 500 colored copies, housed in a gatefold-cover. A must have for fans of newer blackened hardcore style.
I WILL KILL YOU FUCKER
Educated guidance (2006/TANK CRIMES)
HARDCORE-PUNK. Here we have the 2nd instalment of I WILL KILL YOU FUCKER (vol. 1 on Life is Abuse records is already sold-out). Oakland's I WILL KILL YOU FUCKER comes at you with a bunch of punch. Indescribable really, but maybe if Frank Zappa teamed up with Cheech and Chong after drinking from the fountain of genius. A complete compass of direction in humor and music and then right back to music. Packaged in a brilliant silkscreened trifold gate cover including poster, stickers and screened inserts. Limited pressing of 500 colored copies!
