POST-ROCK. "heavenward grand prix" is a JAPANDROIDS' original and "shame" is a PJ HARVEY cover. Recorded during the duo's brief period of time off between tours, each 2 song 7" in the five-part series will include an a-side of previously unreleased material written during the "post-nothing" sessions and a cover b-side. POST-ROCK. JAPANDROIDS’ critically acclaimed debut full-length, set a course for the band that landed them on over 30 year-end lists. Prior to "post-nothing’s" release, JAPANDROIDS released 2 five-song CDR. The releases were limited to 500 copies and quickly fell out-of-print. The companion piece to "post-Nothing", "no singles" compiles these into one album. Meticulous packaging designed by the band includes a 32-page booklet with liner notes detailing JAPANDROIDS’ early history, complete with rare photos and show fliers. The 180gr vinyl version comes in a deluxe double gatefold jacket and contains the MP3 download code!

POST-ROCK. A guitar and drums duo from Vancouver, JAPANDROIDS crank out eardrum-bursting noise-rock that takes cues from alternative-rock vets such as HÜSKER DÜ as well as contemporary bands like NO AGE. On their debut, "post-nothing" they deliver a rush of fuzzed-out rockers and stoner-metal grooves, plus an awesomely bummed-out drone track. Unlike most arty noise bands, these guys don't take themselves too seriously. Comes on thick 180gr vinyl.

HARDCORE-PUNK. JAPANESE WOMEN return with a flexi 7" ("decline of western civilization IV: major tom visits a space cantina in new los angeles on mars (penelope spheeris mix") after their much praised "order" tape. Five punks from Alabama blend hardcore, noise, kraut-rock and old psychedelic garage all too well. In just under 4min. this assault of weirdness dishes out punk-rock that attacks you violently and then leaves you seeing colors. SLAVESCENE meets kraut-rock.

GRINDCORE. JAPANISCHE KAMPFHÖRSPIELE, in addition to their pretty unique approach at a combination of punk-infused death/grind with whatever samples they dig up, have always been about the lyrics. The brilliant booklet artwork give hints as to how much these guys despise what’s around them, as the lyrics reek of insidious cynicism and ridicule against our beloved system. The full-length contains 27 songs and packed with great riffing, thick groove and an equally punchy, yet subtly improved production; compared to their last full-length “rauchen und yoga” to boot. The tempo is a bit slower, blast beats are used only as complementary elements, heaviness and groove are more prominent, chaos less so. If you like MISERY INDEX check this out. By the way...the band is putting up the whole album on MySpace.

GRINDCORE. JAPANISCHE KAMPFHÖRSPIELE was a quirky, creative grindcore band from a bunch of curious Germans - and "hardcore aus der ersten welt" was their full-length from 2004. Featuring more of this wacky group’s artistically original take on grindcore punk, filled with strange breaks, zany vocals, odd pauses, and weird drum patterns. And any extreme music record with lyrics in German is added points for sure. "hardcore aus der ersten welt" is nonetheless a refreshing, ripping, off-kilter, recommended good time. JAPANTHER's trademark hooks, singalong choruses and MISFITS & RAMONES infectiousness has finally crystallized on an album. With the current vogue for shoegaze-inspired noise walls thrust out by NO AGE and DEERHUNTER, perhaps this duo can gatecrash the party!

HARDCORE. Few bands have emerged from within spirit-filled hardcore creating music that appeals far beyond that scene, yet JAWBONE is doing just that. Their music recalls the '90s heavier hitters, both in sonic texture and lyrical potency. But don't be mistaken... despite blending chaotic, somewhat metallic, influences into their music, these boys from Indiana are most certainly hardcore. EMO/POST-PUNK. JAWBOX was born in 1989 from the post-hardcore scene emerging from the Dischord Records family in Washington DC. After a few records with Dischord, the band left to try their luck with Atlantic, producing "for your own special sweetheart", which is regarded by many to be the band's finest hour. Fast-forward to 2009 and the record has been uncovered and re-mastered, and is available for the 1st time in years on vinyl. The vinyl version includes a coupon to enable free digital download of all songs, including the tracks from the "savory" 7".
JAWBOX
jackpot plus/motorist (2011/DISCHORD)
EMO/POST-PUNK. The "jackpot plus" session finds JAWBOX both at the height of their songwriting powers and in the middle of a major transition. It is the 1st recording to feature Zach Barocas after the departure of long-time drummer Adam Wade, and it is the band's final recording for Dischord Records. Shortly after the release of this single, JAWBOX signed with Atlantic for whom they released their final 2 albums. The vinyl was re-cut and re-mastered in 2011 and comes with a digital download card.
