JOAN OF ARC
meaningful work (2010/POLYVINYL)
INDIE-ROCK. "meaningful work" contains 2 songs from the stripped down JOAN OF ARC power trio featuring Tim Kinsella (CAP'N JAZZ, OWLS), Bobby Burg (MAKE BELIEVE) and Theo Katsaounis (A TUNDRA). JOAN OF ARC has had to tighten its belt as we all have. Who can afford a 2nd drummer, a vibraphone, a cellist, post-production processing? The songs are the same. But the production values have been restricted. This is the JOAN OF ARC of the new dust-bowl daze. Vinyl includes a MP3 download card.
JODIS
black curtain (2012/HYDRA HEAD)
POST/AMBIENT-ROCK. Aaron Turner, James Plotkin and Tim Wyskida, possibly better known for their work in ISIS, KHANATE and BLIND IDIOT GOD, return for their 2nd full-length of music that is both dark and crushing, yet minimal, bringing together the stylings of all of their previous enterprises. Vinyl comes with one alternate track.
JOEY CAPE
bridge (2008/SUBURBAN HOME)
SINGER/SONGWRITER. The LAG WAGON front man's acoustic solo album, "bridge" is finally in the can. JOEY CAPE brings 12 tracks of acoustic-rock that breaks away from the pop-punk standards set by LAG WAGON and shows Cape's ability as a singer/songwriter.

The music is powerful '80s hardcore while the vocals are way, way deep and gruff. JOHN CAGE
radio music (2010/DIRTER)
EXPERIMENTAL/AMBIENT. JOHN CAGE composed the piece "radio music" in 1956. It is scored in 8 parts (A-H) with each part to be performed either individually or together with other parts as an ensemble. The performers follow a score that is a sequence of radio frequency tunings and silent parts. Obviously, each time the piece is performed, it yields a different end result. Dirter present here 4 solo versions on this limited edition 10". The works are performed by members of German legends, FAUST and by Steve Pittis' project, BAND OF PAIN. All tracks were recorded live in the studio with absolutely no overdubs. The 10" is packaged in a superb gloss laminated sleeve and is strictly limited to 500 copies.

JOHN K. SAMSON
provincial (2012/EPITAPH)
SINGER/SONGWRITER. "provincial," the 1st solo full-length from Samson (THE WEAKERTHANS, PROPAGANDHI) began with a simple idea: to explore four different roads in Manitoba, the Canadian province where Samson lives. The result is this collection of evocative songs, an album that fits beside BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN's "nebraska", SUN KIL MOON's "ghosts of the great highway", or MOUNTAIN GOATS' "tallahassee". Vinyl version includes a free CD of this entire album.
JOHN SCHOOLEY AND HIS ONE MAN BAND
one man against... (2007/VOODOO RHYTHM)
BLUES-PUNK/GARAGE. The story of JOHN SCHOOLEY (Austin, texas) is a story from a man with a heart deep in the blues and the left foot in the dirty rock ’n’roll. With his first Band THE REVELATORS and then with the FANTASTIC HARD FEELINGS he did build the ground he is walking on today. "on the crooked path", you here more styles this time and instruments as the album bevore, rockabilly for example in the wildest form and he even uses a cello. The album cover is made again my the amazing Rob Jones (The White Strippes) and it’s pretty funny!
JOHN VANDERSLICE
white wilderness (2011/DEAD OCEANS)
INDIE/POP-ROCK. The newest entry into JOHN VANDERSLICE's deep and undeniably remarkable catalog is "white wilderness", and it's a record like no other he's made before. Here are 9 new and wildly impressive songs captured live over 3 days in a unique collaboration with an orchestra. They arranged and conducted "white wilderness" with 19 members; playing strings and horns, vibraphone, pedal steel and piano, an assortment of reed instruments, and much to JOHN VANDERSLICE's benefit, the voice of Minna Choi singing backup at key moments throughout the album. The results are stunning, and "white wilderness" is a breath of fresh air for JOHN VANDERSLICE. Vinyl includes a MP3 download card.
JOHN WIESE
circle snare (2010/PPM)
POST-ROCK. Consider "circle snare" a hard-wrought souvenir. Composed and realized in the midst of a comprehensive Tour in 2008, JOHN WIESE found himself tangled deep in dialogue with his instruments and ideas. Wiese increasingly scrutinized his native tongue and vocabulary, seeking new forms of grammar and cadence, as only extensive dives in un-familiar waters can inspire. His given electronic anatomy of drum-machine, microphones, tapes, and MSP folded out of their hard accustomed formations, breaking out into a more cogent and vital arsenal. Limited to 500 copies!
