the road to hell (2008/FERAL WARD)
HARDCORE. Classic swedish d-beat hardcore. No frills, just angry bare-bones hardcore that takes the DISCHARGE formula and runs with it. If you own one record in the genre, this should be it. Members were/are also in: TOTALITÄR, DISFEAR, NO SECURITY, IMPERIAL LEATHER, AARITILA, KRIGSHOT, DISCHANGE, VARUKERS, etc..
MEASURE (SA), THE
notes (2010/NO IDEA)
PUNK-ROCK. THE MEASURE have laid it all on the line here in their 2nd full-length "notes", wherein they continue their tradition of Left Coast-inspired pop-punk that leaves no room for metaphor or horseplay. They play at two speeds: fast and faster. Is the buzz in the guitars or the mix? Rising above the fray, both vocals weave around each other with a cutting cross-examination of self, society, and scene. In the context of a band's life, "notes" would be filed under dark sophomore release and greatest leap forward in confidence and songwriting. Vinyl comes with a MP3 download code.
MEASURE (SA), THE
songs about people.. (2008/DON GIOVANNI)
PUNK-ROCK. On "songs about people", New Brunswick's THE MEASURE (SA) continue to crank out melodic, upbeat melodic-punk, following the formula they use on heir countless splits and 7"s, creating a sound comparable to FIFTH HOUR HERO or an amped up DISCOUNT. Contains 8 of their best songs to date! Colored vinyl available.
crippled children suck (1982/TOUCH AND GO)
HARDCORE-PUNK. This lovingly titled record leans a little too far towards the disgusting side. A few of the songs are more generalized than anything on the first one. Most of these songs aren't instant classics like the ones on the debut, but they'll grow on you, if you like this kind of crap. Same old catchy, poorly-produced obnoxious hate hardcore-punk. THE MEATMEN simply inspire a polite young man to shout "fuck you" every once in a while.
happy fucking easter, asshole (2011/TKO)
HARDCORE-PUNK. The legendary MEATMEN return with 1 track pulled from the "dead dave show" and 2 GERMS covers from a forthcoming GERMS tribute record. Limited to 500 copies left over from Record Store Day 2011.
war of the superbikes (2010/DRASTIC PLASTIC)
HARDCORE-PUNK. Originally released in 1985, THE MEATMEN's 2nd album, "war of the superbikes", teamed the shameless and poignantly hysterical TESCO VEE with MINOR THREAT's legendary guitar duo, Brian Baker and Lyle Preslar, for one of the great summer albums of all time. The hardcore musicianship is superb, as are the timelessly vulgar lyrics. Much like the BEASTIE BOYS' "licensed to ill" which came around 2 years later, one can't help but learn, know and sing all the hilarious lyrics to these incredibly catchy songs all summer long.
we're the meatmen and you suck! (2008/TOUCH AND GO)
HARDCORE-PUNK. This classic full-length LP features some of the earliest and most important recordings from THE MEATMEN, who were fronted by the legendary Tesco Vee. They played some of the most vulgar, tongue in cheek hardcore-punk at the time. This LP feature 7 studio tracks and 9 authentic live-recordings. Classic MEATMEN, it's a must have - so buy it!
burn the world (2012/RESURRECTION)
HARDCORE-PUNK. MEDIA BLITZ is a hardcore band from Orange County. They have been around for a few years and "burn the world" is their 3rd release. If you own there previous material, you know how much energy and aggression they put forth into their songs. Pissed off hardcore-punk with snarled shouts, fast simple hardcore riffs, gang vocals, sweet mini-solos, cool breakdowns, and catchy drumming. The band has really stepped it up a notch. Everything about the band is angrier and tighter, not just the music but the lyrics as well. You'll be circle pitting for days after listening to this. Why isn't this band more popular than they are by now? Vinyl includes a digital download card.
One free miracle ticket (2004/LIFE IS ABUSE)
HARDCORE. A spastic, sarcastic, piece of plastic. Imagine being stuck in an insane asylum with SEPTIC DEATH, RUDIMENTARY PENI and WESLEY WILLIS and then trying to write a record about your "trip"...only to discover you no longer remember how to play music, more or less tie your own shoes! Executed by recovering members of DYSTOPIA, SKAVEN and NIGEL PEPPER-COCK. Mad frantic trash grooves for dysfunctional members of society. LP comes in a nice designed gatefold sleeve, CD contains a 33 min. interview by local mind-maverick Saint Paul and a cover of SOFT CELL's "Sex dwarf". Intriguing mood-music for the new millenium.
en raga sül (2009/HAWTHORNE STREETS/MONTOTONSTUDIO)
POST-HARDCORE. First release by this band featuring 3/4 of RACEBANNON! Pretty much in the same vein, they are combining the noise-rock aesthetics of THE JESUS LIZARD, with a riff-centric cyclone that sounds like SLAYER playing MELVINS covers through the MC5's equipment! Enhanced CD containing 15 tracks with a full playing-time of over 31min., plus video-files as bonus!
MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS
variations of swing (2008/DENOVALI)
POST-HARDCORE. MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS are the latest addition to the growing and highly dominant U.K. post-hardcore scene. MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS is the most successful band to attempt this sound so far in terms of sheer originality. Combining MILLION DEAD's pop sensibility with THE MURDER OF ROSA LUXEMBURG’s technical backing, MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS’ sound is basically pop songs broken down into 10 sec. burst of energy that are strung together into 3 min. explosions. Basically, MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS is a technically proficient pop-punk group that rides the line between pop-punk and post-hardcore. They are truly an original band and probably one of the most interesting groups coming out of the UK at the current moment.
massive fucking headwounds (2011/TO LIVE A LIE)
GRINDCORE. Finally here and in its full glory. The final testament of Miami's crusted grindcore powerhouse syndicate. Features members from SHITSTORM and HARDWARE YOUTH. LP includes a MP3 download card. Long live 305 grindcore.
MEHKAGO N.T. / RELIGIOUS AS FUCK
split (2008/NO IDEA)
HARDCORE. Gainesville's RELIGIOUS AS FUCK explode with a blast of fast, furious, gnarly hardcore thrash. Six songs in just under 5 min.. Members of ASSHOLEPARADE, SAVAGE BREWTALITY and DEAD FRIENDS. Miami's MEHKAGO N.T. crush all in their path with 2 tracks of heavy hardcore brutality. Fast, crusty, angry... akin to early HIS HERO IS GONE, DOOM and DETESTATION.
