CRUST-HARDCORE. NIGHTGAUN from Arizona plays pissed off crust with its roots buried in hardcore rather than metal. They play fast but don’t resort to the d-beat. They’re heavy but don’t chug the guitars. The lyrics are aggressive and confrontationally political, not the usual whining about issues without talking about solutions. This 2nd 7" is in the same raw hardcore vein, like KAAOS, DISORDER.

SLUDGE/DOOM. NIGHTSLUG's demo-tape has been remastered at the Tonmeisterei and is now available on vinyl for the 1st time. The 3 tracks are simple, heavy, raw, primitive, dark and gloomy, but at the same time, unique, powerful and atmospheric. These adjectives are not seen together very often, and that shows how special those tracks are. The disgustingly gloomy and ultra-low guitar riffs that dominate the songs are perfect throughout - so very crushing in its delivery. NIGHTSLUG's music is ecstatically powerful - thanks to their dynamic rhythm section in their drumming - sounds really bombastic. The bass is down-tuned, offering a slow and mourning, lurking riffing. Really important is the factor 'groove', and NIGHTSLUG definitely have this groove that bands like CELTIC FROST, HELLHAMMER and WINTER invented. Even the vocals have a nasty demon CELTIC FROST- touch. Deep grunts are the vocals that adorn the musical journey of this band. NIGHTSLUG, however, made a demo that isn't just angrily downtempo and muddily downtuned - it swings, and has a punk spirit. If you like anything even tangentially related to doom or sludge it is a mandatory purchase. There is none heavier!!! DEATH-METAL. This album is quite different from the NILE we know today, but that does not make it any less amazing. The album only has 5 songs. The songs are all lengthy, which gives the tracks an epic feel. Lyrically, the album is not as Egyptian themed as later NILE releases, but they still speak of ancient times, mythology, battles, etc. All in all, this is an awesome 1st release, and the start of NILE's transcending musical career. Features the original NILE line-up that did "among the catacombs...".

Ueberraschend abwechslungsreich und catchy praesentiert sich das erste Soloalbum des MR. UNDERHILL Leaders aus Kanada. Koennte man den Herrn aufgrund seines Auesseren getrost zu jedem DANZIG/PETE STEEL Lookalike Contest schicken, so offenbart sich seine Sicht von Horror-Rock'n'Roll doch fern des klassischen MISFITS Sound. Mit einer dusteren Stimme, die irgendwo zwischen beiden besagten Frontmaennern und dem Typen von SISTERS OF MERCY liegt, zieht er schon beim kraftvollen Opener ''Fashion of fear'' zum Refrain hin alle Register und laesst schoene Choere und ein Keyboard einfliessen, ''Saturday night creepers'' ist eine melodische Teenagerhymne (klingt wie eine schnellere Version von ''Saturday night'' vom 'Famous monsters' Album der MISFITS), ebenso ''Killer creature double feature'' und ''Blue movies'' mit ihren duester rockenden Gitarren und den Moerderrefrains. ''Outsiders'' ist dagegen etwas punkiger und laesst in der Mitte eine harte Gitarre aufheulen, ''In the night'' und ''Like a guiloteen'' sind wieder sehr DANZIG-lastig, bei ''The midnight croon'' heulen die Woelfe und bei ''Into the sphere we go'' werden auch Cello und ein waberndes Theramin konsultiert. Zum Schluss gibt es mit ''The bitter end'' noch eine wunderbare Akustiknummer. Als Bonussongs gibt es ausserdem noch das poppigere ''Astronomicon'' und das akustische ''Interview with the icon''. Eines der besten Releases auf Fiend Force so far und fuer Fans der spaeteren MISFITS, sowie SAMHAIN, DANZIG und PETE STEEL unumgaenglich. Tipp!
