OLD TIME RELIJUN
catharsis in crisis (2007/K)
EMO/INDIE-ROCK. OLD TIME RELIJUN continues to break the confinement of rock-cliché with its newest release, "catharsis in crisis". Song after song, the ferocity of lead singer Arrington draws listeners deeper into a world where language, rhythm and unrepentant libido collide. This music is temperamental, unwieldy and unyielding; aimed to cut listeners to the bone. "Catharsis in crisis" is the 1st album to reveal OLD TIME RELIJUN’s new secret weapon, subversive saxophonista Benjamin, who uses and abuses his classical training to drive the band further into the spheres.
OLD WOUNDS
from where we came is where we'll rest (2013/GLORY KID)
HARDCORE. On "from where we came is where we'll rest", these young bucks from New Jersey breathe new life into the crushing, exhilarating scene once ruled by bands like TURMOIL, DISEMBODIED and INDECISION. The under-21 crew seek to revitalize the metallic hardcore scene that boomed before their time - but this is no mere retro action, this is pure passion. Limited colored edition of 500 copies includes a digital download card.
OLDE GHOST
use yer illusion 3'n'4 (2011/HANDSTAND)
POST-HARDCORE. This NY/NJ-based powerhouse's sound lies somewhere between BLACK FLAG and HOT SNAKES, with a touch of DC influence. A heavy riff-storm of guitars mixed with pulsating bass lines, thunderous drumming, and burly vocals. Members have done time in a slew of bands, including BOOKS LIE, OFF MINOR, SAETIA, GUILT TRIP and others. Limited to 300 copies on white vinyl, and includes a MP3 download card.
OLE AND THE ORKS
s/t (2007/FRONTCORE)
HARDCORE-PUNK.
OLEHOLE
Holemole (2008/UNDERGROUND COMMUNIQUE)
POST-PUNK. With members of THE GHOST, BURIAL YEAR, and QUEST FOR QUINTANAROO, East-Bay area band OLEHOLE bring a sound that encompasses numerous eclectic influences, mixing the melodic punk of Gainesville bands like HOT WATER MUSIC and SMALL BROWN BIKE with the controlled chaos of their former band BURIAL YEAR.
OMAR RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ
absence makes the heart... (2008/WILLIE ANDERSON)
POST-ROCK. "absence makes the heart grow fungus" is 1 of 4 solo albums completed in 2001 by OMAR RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ, upon disbanding AT THE DRIVE-IN. Simultaneous to launching the massive undertaking that would become THE MARS VOLTA, Rodriguez Lopez spent much of that year in his Long Beach studio, blowing-off the proverbial steam resultant from the previous few years of endless touring. The record features tracks that were intended for eventual use by THE MARS VOLTA but reassigned, for one reason or another, and prior to the release of this album, unknown to the public. Featuring 9 tracks, "Absence..." was tracked at Doug Messenger's North Hollywood studio only a few weeks after Rodriguez Lopez recorded " A manual dexterity Soundtrack,Vol. 1" there, and is comparable to that project in both sound and atmosphere.
OMAR RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ
despair (2009/WILLIE ANDERSON)
POST-ROCK. 2009 release from the prolific THE MARS VOLTA guitarist. Prior to beginning the studio sessions for MARS VOLTA's "bedlam" album, Rodriguez Lopez recorded "despair", a nihilistic and disturbing meditation on his experiences in and around Jerusalem culled from field recordings and studio experimentation. A nightmarish pastiche of drones, noise, feedback, and unrecognizable audio hallucinations, Rodriguez Lopez has, appropriately, compared the experience of listening to the album as not unlike that of a "bad acid trip". "despair" challenges the listener and no will no doubt be divisive amongst THE MARS VOLTA fans.
OMAR RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ
megaritual (2009/WILLIE ANDERSON)
POST-ROCK. 2009 release, the final album in the series initiated and recorded by OMAR RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ in Amsterdam. Committed to tape in 2006 and mixed the following year, the album features 9 instrumental tracks performed solely by Omar and his brother, Marcel. Accomplished multi-instrumentalists, there are few moments on the album that do not give the impression that the duo are in fact a "full" band, though perhaps not one as populated as THE MARS VOLTA. "megaritual" is another compelling and unpredictable entry in the growing Rodriguez-Lopez canon, sure to satisfy the casual passerby and the committed fan alike.

minor cuts and scrapes.. (2008/2008/WILLIE ANDERSON)
POST-ROCK. "minor cuts and scrapes in the bushes ahead " is the newest in a series of selectedly-archival solo releases made available by OMAR RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ of THE MARS VOLTA. Recorded in 2001-2002, shortly after completing the "tremulant" which would be THE MARS VOLTA's debut, the forgotten album was initially made available only to friends on the then-surfacing minidisc format. Comprised of approximately 10 mostly instrumental tracks, "minor cuts.." occupies some realm between Rodriguez Lopez's familiar rock/jazz/Latin hybrids and the more form-less audio canvases of his experimental solo releases. Travelling from one imagined dreamscape to another, the listener experiences what might be considered a variety of soundtracks to a night's worth of dreams, as well as a few nightmares. "minor cuts.." often achieves a sense of timelessness, enabling it to compare to some of the most enduring work of artists as varied as BRIAN ENO, THROBBING GRISTLE, and JOHN FRUSCIANTE.

se dice bisonte, no bualo (2007/GSL)
POST-ROCK. One of 4 albums written and recorded by OMAR RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ whilst living in Amsterdam in 2005, "e dice bisonte, no bufalo" was conceived simultaneously to THE MARS VOLTA's "amputechture" and OMAR's soundtrack to the forthcoming Jorge Hernandez film, "el bufalo de la noche". Consisting of 3 vocal tracks and 6 instrumentals, the album includes the original studio version of the song "please heat this eventually" (without the vocals of Damo Suzuki). The song "rapid fire tollbooth" has been a feature of THE MARS VOLTA's live set for the past few months and is proving to be a favorite among the rabid fans populating.
OMAR RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ
xenophanes (2009/WILLIE ANDERSON)
POST-ROCK. OMAR RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ likes to keep himself busy. He’s released an album with THE MARS VOLTA, dropped 2 solo albums, lent his production talent to several, and collaborated with HELLA drummer Zach Hill all just this year. His latest effort finds him both singing and writing lyrics, in addition to the usual guitar playing and composing. "xenophanes" is a triumph of imagination and an inspired, concise statement. A conceptual journey through life, death, and re-birth, the album tells the story of a selfish and judgmental female caseworker who falls in love with a male client. MARS VOLTA members Juan Alderete de la Peña, Thomas Pridgen, and Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez are featured on the album, with jazz keyboardist Mark Aanderud and vocalist Ximena Sariñana lending additional work as well.
OMAR RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ & LYDIA LUNCH
s/t (2007/WILLIE ANDERSON)
POST-ROCK. OMAR RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ has been a fan of Lydia's work since discovering her in the early '90s. When MARS VOLTA curated a festival in 2005 they invited her. And when Omar and Lydia met, they hit it off very well. The release is the first of what Omar hopes will be a series of collaborations with Lydia. The music was recorded in Amsterdam and New York and Lydia's vocals were recorded at her own studio in Barcelona. The politics of the record are fairly obvious and Omar feels as though she speaks for both of them in that regard.
OMAR RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ & JEREMY M. WARD
s/t (2008/WILLIE ANDERSON)
POST-ROCK. Back in 2001, just after the breakup of AT THE DRIVE-IN, MARS VOLTA guitarist OMAR RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ and his late friend JEREMY MICHAEL WARD (member of DE FACTO) recorded an album together, a minimal affair with nods to composer Steve Reich and the household sound manipulations of Matmos. That album, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Jeremy Michael Ward was released in an edition of 200 minidiscs and given out to friends. Now, this album will finally be widely available again.
OMAR RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ QUINETET
the apocalypse inside of an orange (2008/INFRASONIC)
POST-ROCK. "the apocalypse inside of an orange" is the next in a series of albums written while OMAR RODRIGUEZ-LOPEZ was living in Amsterdam in 2005. As the name on the album implies, the tracks included are performed by the OMAR RODRIGUEZ-LOPEZ QUINTET, the band that toured Europe in late 2005. This 60 min., limited edition double-vinyl features 7 new tracks as well as a previously unreleased version of the song "Jacob van lennepkade" that 1st appeared on OMAR's self-titled (aka Dutch) album in 2005.
OMAR RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ-QUARTET
sepulcros de miel (2010/RODRIGUEZLOPEZ)
EXPERIMENTAL-ROCK. After few below the average solo albums in line, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez returned with great one again. Previous duet with John Frusciante release was extremely raw, and could be counted as rehearsal recording only. From the very 1st sounds you will understand what this album is all about - deeply psychedelic guitar jamming with plenty of synth and electronic effects. But differently from many similar O.R.L. - there is spacey atmospheric sound, excellent guitar works, complex rhythmic structures, many jazz fusion elements. And almost no chaotic cacophony at all! It could attract many of the former MARS VOLTA fans. Vinyl includes MP3 download code.
