PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART, THE
heart in your heartbreak (2010/FORTUNA POP)
INDIE-POP. THE PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART had quite a run over the months. “heart in your heartbreak”, the 1st first preview from the new album, is a perfect snapshot of where PAINS are headed in 2011: an infectious slice of chunky power-pop with a great beat, sweeping synths and well-placed guitar jangle. Pure Pains all the way, but bolder, louder and more confident. On the flip, non-LP track “the one” is a classicsounding rocker that would sit just fine next to TEENAGE FANCLUB on any well compiled mix tape. All in all a superb single and a great taster for that 2nd album. Colored vinyl includes a MP3 download code.
PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART, THE
s/t (2009/FORTUNA POP)
INDIE-POP. The most exciting record release of the year is upon us as THE PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART unleash their debut album upon the world. THE PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART is an instant classic, packed with brilliantly-executed pop gems that blend the rush of youthful enthusiasm with crafty arrangements, well-honed tunes and buckets of guitar racket. Drawing on the sparkling legacy of the best of 80s and 90s pop, the band update the timeless noisy pop template with a thoroughly modern viewpoint and a very distinctive, playful personality.

HARDCORE. "relicts" is a 7" collection of sold-out stuff. The LP contains 20 songs in total (their debut 7", "door/provided railroad" 7", "cry of the sheeps" and "back reporter" Flexi with tracks from tribute records to both POISON IDEA and japanese legend GHOUL. PAINTBOX
trip, trance & travelling (2009/PRANK)
HARDCORE. "trip, trance & travelling" is the 3rd full-length from Tokyo's PAINTBOX. Almost 10 years in the making and finally available on vinyl. Combing the ferocity of Japanese hardcore with influences from across the music spectrum-classic rock, psychedelia and more- this DoLP is an almost 70min. journey through a myriad of emotions and soundscapes that stretches the concept of a hardcore album to it's limit in a way only Japanese legends PAINTBOX could. Comes in a heavy gatefold weight tip-on Stoughton sleeve with fold-out lyric sheet with English lyric translations.
PALA
s/t (2009/A389)
PROGRESSIVE-HARDCORE. Baltimore's PALA feature members of PULLING TEETH and bring a technical and rather innovative style of hardcore that can somewhat be described as CONVERGE crossing paths with early MASTODON, NEUROSIS and even raw AT THE DRIVE IN.
PALA
we don't exist (2011/A389)
PROGRESSIVE-HARDCORE. PALA's debut LP is a creative recipe loaded with hypnotic echos, chaotic drumming, and outbursts of huge stoner riffs blended with delicate musical passages and topped off by three distinct vocalists. Featuring Chris Kuhns of PULLING TEETH and HATEWAVES, this is heavy music for nerds, by nerds. The style doesn't stray too far from the technical sounds of CONVERGE, KYLESA, or early MASTODON. Colored LP includes a MP3 download card.
PALE CREATION
s/t (2010/A389)
HARDCORE. From Cleveland, the land of INTEGRITY and RINGWORM come PALE CREATION, who take a page from the book of classic Clevo metallic-hardcore and add an influence of old thrashing Bay-Area metal. Guest vocals by Dwid of INTEGRITY on this recording. 7" includes MP3 download code.
PALE CREATION
twilight haunt (2011/A389)
POST-HARDCORE. Hailing from the Cleveland area, PALE CREATION took their cues from their peers in INTEGRITY and RINGWORM and fused it with the darkwave/goth influences of such bands as JOY DIVISION and MINISTRY. Originally released on CD in 1999 via East Coast Empire, PALE CREATION's masterpiece, "twilight haunt", is now available for the 1st time on vinyl as a limited edition one-time pressing of 250 copies with never before seen photos/lyrics. Colored LP includes a digital download card.
PALE CREATION / HESSIAN
split (2012/MAGIC BULLET)
HARDCORE. Trancontinental in scope, this split pairs Belgium's HESSIAN with Cleveland's PALE CREATION. Unifying themes of wrath, scorn, and urgency permeate nine stunning full tracks. This release marks the debut of HESSIAN, the least forgiving unit from the Church Of Ra-family of Belgian stalwarts, and is marked by a storm looming beneath towering guitars and hectic drum patterns. The flipside features the latest from long-running Cleveland vets PALE CREATION. Fans of INTEGRITY and RINGWORM know what to expect from this quartet: dark, brooding, metallic hardcore shaped by unconventional twists at every turn. Colored vinyl includes a digital download card.
PALEHORSE
amongst the flock (2007/DEAD SERIOUS/BRIDGE NINE)
HARDCORE. Bands have fused hardcore and metal before, but PALEHORSE adds a new dimension to the sounds that have made HATEBREED and INTEGRITY cornerstones within the hardcore world. Now, PALEHORSE is taking the groundwork laid and mixing it with the discordant melodies from modern influences like HIS HERO IS GONE and the intricate guitar work that is not far off from '80s thrash-metal. Combine this broad range of influences with the drumming, the raspy vocals and lyrics touching on everything from religion and politics to personal struggle, and you have a record that is going to surprise everyone who hears it.
PANACEA
s/t (2008/SADNESS OF NOISE)
CRUST-HARDCORE. Another great band from eastern Poland. On the one Hand it's a perfect mix of Spanish modern crust like EKKAIA or MADAME GERMEN on the other like FUNERAL DINER, GHOSTLIMB or early FALL OF EFRAFA. Expect everything from slow, dark emotional parts to head on d-beat tempos, melancholic and powerful!
PANDAMONIUM
s/t (2007/ONE PERCENT)
THRASH-HARDCORE. Minnesota's female hardcore troop PANDAMONIUM come out thrashing with 7 fast, energetic tracks of no-frills hardcore that bring to mind SCHOLASTIC DETH and other pissed and current Bay-Area power-thrasher. Powerful music with a powerful message.
PANGEA
never not know nothing (2009/STRESS DOMAIN)
POST-PUNK. PANGEA has progressed from a (typically acoustic) two-piece, to a full, five-piece electric wall of sound. Quite different then their previous releases. The production value on this is amazingly loud, powerful, and bursting with energy. Personally bringing to mind bands like early PERE UBU and WIRE, this record is charged to the brink with catchy melodies you won't be able to get out of your head if you tried.
PANIC
circles (2006/REFLECTIONS)
HARDCORE. Bringing a release like this with a simple phrase like "PANIC is back" would be too easy. The members of this (dare we to say legendary already) band originated in Boston were never gone in the 1st place. Hardcore and punk is what they do and what they do best. These 6 songs going under the title "circles" might very well be the best songs PANIC has ever written! Features ex-members of THE TROUBLE, AMERICAN NIGHTMARE, IN MY EYES. Find the strength inside to replace the hate with pride and fucking rise!
