Bei all dem intellektuellen Anspruch vergessen TURBOSTAAT jedoch nie, was den Leuten am meisten Spaß macht: anständig rocken. So tummeln sich auch auf dem vierten Album jede Menge Hits, und künftig werden gewiss noch viel mehr Leute bei den Konzerten aufschlagen, die lauthals "husum, verdammt!" mitgrölen.

POST-ROCK. "what is the meaning of what" is the 3rd album from New York's psych-dance-post-rock stalwarts, TURING MACHINE. The extended hiatus was largely due to its members other projects, most notably drummer Jerry Fuchs' relentless rotation in virtually every live band, including but not limited to LCD SOUNDSYSTEM, MASERATI, HOLY GHOST, MASSIVE ATTACK and others. Shortly after TURING MACHINE began to work on this album, Fuchs tragically passed away. In his absence the other members completing the album, with a little help from a plethora of friends, including DISAPPEARS vocalist Brian Case. "what is the meaning of what" boasts an increased focus on the dance floor while maintaining the adrenalin-fueled psychedelic post-punk fetishism that is the heart of TURING MACHINE. SXE-HARDCORE. TURN THE TIDE started out as a project when people involved in several other finish hardcore bands, decided it was time for a straight-edge band playing traditional hardcore in Finland again, as such a band had been lacking since the breakup of ON A SOLID ROCK. Although TURN THE TIDE take the inspiration for their sound clearly from the classic youth-crew bands, their sound also contains elements of melodic hardcore, with raw production adding an extra sting. Shouted by a voice that sometimes brings Ian MacKaye to mind, the lyrics on their debut 7" are reflections of everyday life and relations with other people: greed, love, self-confidence and personal choices and growth.

PUNK-ROCK. Hamilton's TV FREAKS are busting at the seams with energy and spit. The sleeve speaks volumes about the music inside and that music is loud and scathing. The vocals are just as distorted as the guitar. There is a smug cynicism that sits on top of every song. An angry din of frustrated chord pounding, shouting and the drumming like they're trying to stab through cymbals and skins. TV FREAKS do a great job of taking some classic and modern influences to come up with their own unique and fresh sound. This is pure punk that looks better in blood on a guitar than spray painted on a leather jacket.
