CROSSOVER-HARDCORE/METAL. "you got it", GANG GREEN's 2nd full-length release did not vary much from the band's long-established musical pattern. For the drinking, skating, and just being a general nuisance are the dominant lyrical themes on "you got it", while an energized hardcore buzzes in accompaniment, making a mockery out of any conceivable speed limit as the Boston punkers sonically graze speed-metal. All the fast-paced odes to partying that fans might expect are present yet again on "older...(budweiser)", with one notable exception.

DOOM-METAL. For those unfamiliar with the GRAND MAGUS sound, it revolves around crunchy, heavy BLACK SABBATH inspired riffs and excellently melodic but strong vocals, both of which provided by Janne Christoffersson (SPIRITUAL BEGGARS). As impressive as the vocals are, the riffs Christoffersson crafts to propel the songs along are equally worthy or praise. While previous albums had a more doom-metal sound, the riffs here are way more traditionally metal in style. Their sound is unique enough that no particular band comes to mind to compare them to but fans of traditional and classic metal will feel right at home here. No filler is to be found anywhere, yet there are many things to admire for fans of doomy, classy metal.

POST-HARDCORE. Atlanta's GRAY GHOST continues their slow, dark sound towards oblivion with their 2nd release. Still loosely based in the realm of hardcore, the band's sound is a progressive mixture of drone, hardcore, and metal. "deep in the shallow end" shows the band adding more complex layers to their songwriting process. Lyrically the record announces an unapologetic reaction to our modern day, dysfunctional world. Each song bleeds into the next to retain a choke hold effect. Cover art by Ryan Patterson adds to the bleak harsh nature of the music inside.
