DOWNFALL OF GAIA
CRUST/POST-HARDCORE. Re-release of the 1st proper full-length from 2010. German crust act DOWNFALL OF GAIA traverse more harrowing emotion than many bands do in their entire discographies. Both intensely atmospheric and relentlessly hard-hitting, the band takes hardcore fundamentals and pushes them to emotional extremes, flickering between fragility and ferocity. For fans of FALL OF EFRAFA and AGRIMONIA.
s/t (2012/DISEASED AUDIO)
POWER-VIOLENCE HARDCORE. DRUG PROBLEM from New Zealand deliver 10 songs of dark, sludgy, disgusting power-violence. Chock full of disturbing samples and wretched sounding vocals. This was released as a demo CD in 2009 but never got a proper release before the band reached hiatus. This is the vinyl treatment it deserves. Limited edition of 500 items.
EARLY DAY MINERS
the threatment (2009/SECRETLY CANADIAN)
POST-ROCK. "the treatment", their 6th album since their 2001 debut, EARLY DAY MINERS have continued the tradition of long, sweeping tracks that paint the air with meditative descriptions of life’s many temperaments, with the addition of more germane social topics. But make no mistake: this is not an unpleasant trip down melancholy lane with dead trees. The transition therein is smooth and gentle, but still strongly emotive, akin to what the CURE’s "disintegration" would have sounded like if Robert Smith had a more optimistic outlook.
FIRE & ICE
HARDCORE. Richmond's own FIRE & ICE (featuring current and former members of DOWN TO NOTHING, IRON BOOTS and BRACEWAR) is back with this full-length collection release. Consisting of tracks from both their "gods & devils" and "grim" 7"s, their song from the "america's hardcore" compilation and a brand new track exclusive to this release. For fans of NYC hardcore and THE ICEMEN, LEEWAY and BREAKDOWN. Vinyl includes a digital download card.
FUCK ME DEAD
mechanize me (2005/CLARENCE THOMAS)
HARDCORE-PUNK. The debut 7" from Vancouver's FUCK ME DEAD. Taking influences from early '80s Southern California hardcore-punk bands like ANGRY SAMOANS, CIRCLE JERKS, and (early) BLACK FLAG, the band thrashes out 3 snotty hardcore-punk gems on this limited 7" release.
very negative (2013/ATOMIC ACTION)
HARDCORE. Members of SOUL CONTROL, SWEET JESUS, DAUGHTERS etc. deliver music to rip your face off. "very negative" is 8 songs. FUCKING INVINCIBLE is a straight forward, punch your boss in the face hardcore that features Alexis (DAUGHTERS) yelling his head off over the crushing riffs. Yep, no drunken Elvis vocals here!
FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND
memory and humanity (2008/CARGO)
POST-HARDCORE. FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND have grown from an underground, overseas phenomenon into one of the most popular and respected metallic hardcore bands of the decade. After a brief encounter with the major label side of life, FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND have teamed up with Victory Records for the release of their long-awaited new record entitled "memory and humanity". The sound of this record is that of a mature hard-rock band ready to take their gargantuan riffs, pounding rhythms and haunting screams to the next level.
i fear/the other place (2011/TAANG)
HARDCORE. Ever wanted to hear what GANG GREEN sounds like in 2011? Now we all can as Chris Doherty and crew rip through another 2 tracks of classic, sarcastic Boston hardcore delivered the way only they know how.
you got it/older...(budweiser) (2007/ROADRUNNER)
CROSSOVER-HARDCORE/METAL. "you got it", GANG GREEN's 2nd full-length release did not vary much from the band's long-established musical pattern. For the drinking, skating, and just being a general nuisance are the dominant lyrical themes on "you got it", while an energized hardcore buzzes in accompaniment, making a mockery out of any conceivable speed limit as the Boston punkers sonically graze speed-metal. All the fast-paced odes to partying that fans might expect are present yet again on "older...(budweiser)", with one notable exception.
GOOD, THE BAD & THE ZUGLY, THE
brainbomb/killing time (2012/FYSISK FORMAT)
HARDCORE-PUNK. What we have here is an example of classic white trash punk-rock from Oslo! THE GOOD THE BAD & THE ZUGLY has released three 7" this far and have quickly become underground darlings in their hometown. Absorbing plenty of filth and speed from the school of GG ALLIN and POISON IDEA and adding a snotty and absurd sense of humour, these young men have created a new breed of punk-rock that is as repulsive as it is irresistable. Limited to 500 copies on black vinyl.
hammer of the north (2010/ROADRUNNER)
DOOM-METAL. For those unfamiliar with the GRAND MAGUS sound, it revolves around crunchy, heavy BLACK SABBATH inspired riffs and excellently melodic but strong vocals, both of which provided by Janne Christoffersson (SPIRITUAL BEGGARS). As impressive as the vocals are, the riffs Christoffersson crafts to propel the songs along are equally worthy or praise. While previous albums had a more doom-metal sound, the riffs here are way more traditionally metal in style. Their sound is unique enough that no particular band comes to mind to compare them to but fans of traditional and classic metal will feel right at home here. No filler is to be found anywhere, yet there are many things to admire for fans of doomy, classy metal.
deep in the shallow end (2009/CHAINSAW SAFETY)
POST-HARDCORE. Atlanta's GRAY GHOST continues their slow, dark sound towards oblivion with their 2nd release. Still loosely based in the realm of hardcore, the band's sound is a progressive mixture of drone, hardcore, and metal. "deep in the shallow end" shows the band adding more complex layers to their songwriting process. Lyrically the record announces an unapologetic reaction to our modern day, dysfunctional world. Each song bleeds into the next to retain a choke hold effect. Cover art by Ryan Patterson adds to the bleak harsh nature of the music inside.
hound (2012/DEFIANT HEARTS)
POWER-VIOLENCE HARDCORE. GRG from Oklahoma City show up with their 1st full-length record. Power-violence hardcore with a slight crust influence, some experimental slowdowns as well as sudden melodic parts but most time on highest speed. Exceptional record! Hurry up - just 200 copies made with silkscreen covers.
gå hem över himlen (2011/ADAGIO 830)
POP-PUNK. HANNA HIRSCH deliver 6 new songs that follow up the great debut "tala svart". They continue with powerful, swedish sung pop-punk. Another masterpiece of beautiful power-pop made in Sweden.
on the balls (2013/FERAL WARD/JT CLASS)
OI!/PUNK-ROCK. Nine years on from the stunning 2nd album "same meat, different gravy", lazy south London oi! legends HARD SKIN return with not one but 2 albums. "on the balls" is the male version of this soon to be household oi! classic. It's 12 instant anthems about council estates, sausages, the kids, cunts, the filth and gipsy hill. The sound is massive, the songs catchy and they'll stick in yer head for years. No one does anthemic oi! better than HARD SKIN and the world will once again rejoice at these three diamond geezers. HARD SKIN are the world’s premier oi! punk band.
